tOSU at Illinois, November 28th, Cancelled

I have quite a drive, I might have to fly in. I might be a few drinks in myself but get me some gloves and I'm freaky quick in the flex. Garrett Wilson be warned, I am coming for your spot. It might have been 10+ years since I posted a 4.4 at OSU senior camp, but I am willing to bet I could put an Illini defender in my rearview mirror tomorrow morning.
I think @sparcboxbuck still has a mean streak in him from the lacrosse field. We’re all ready.

I guess if that’s how you want to interpret what I typed, I can’t help you much, but I’ll try.

The point is, even with testing on Saturday morning, there are kids who will test negative and could still be positive or carriers who develop between test and playing. Ultimately, the horse left the barn with the first carrier in the Woody. Testing, while likely able to minimize the impact, is not foolproof. And it won’t be out of the Woody until well after tsun week.

But thanks for suggesting I was thinking only of us.

This ^^^^ the lag time between testing and impact is the issue-you can test negative for several days while initially infected. If the situation was reversed this game would be canceled.

No. You will never know the extent of the outbreak till it's over. You got with best you can in this case. Otherwise we should have played 0 games cause someone could have potentially had it and not tested positive all season.

That’s a false comparison. Playing in a pandemic with no positive test results is far different than playing in a pandemic with positive test results. I’m confused why the difference is difficult to discern.

Huh? Why would it be canceled if the situation is reversed? The situation we actually have is what calls for uncertainty. You have players positive. You have at least one coach positive. And you have several others who could be infected AND contagious but tested negative BECAUSE of that lag time. So you could be going into this game - heck onto an hour flight - with several contagious people you don’t know about. And we will know a lot more than we know now in a week. That’s why you cancel the game. So you have a better chance - not a guaranteed chance - to contain it.

What constitutes an "outbreak"? One positive? 3?

We don't need to know any of this shit. The people who do are still planning to go to Champaign. Let's leave the useless moral grandstanding for more important things like the poli forum or @Saw31 late night drunk thread or something.

I didn’t say anything political. Not sure why you interpreted it that way.

Not really. OSU clearly said an uptick in positive cases not that there had been none before. I seriously doubt every team that's played a big 10 game so far this year has had zero cases that week.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT OHIO STATE'S TITLE DREAMS?
It doesn’t. At least, it shouldn’t.

As long as the Buckeyes win this weekend’s game – and they’re still four-touchdown favorites, per Bovada – then this hiccup shouldn’t alter them off of their course.

All of the team’s ultimate goals that remain on the table. The Michigan game is still slated to take place at Ohio Stadium in 15 days. Big Ten championship eligibility remains intact as long as the Buckeyes play two of the three remaining regular season games. They were among the top-four teams in Tuesday’s initial College Football Playoff rankings reveal.

If Ohio State plays and wins on Saturday, everything the team wants to achieve will still be doable.

WHY THEY'RE TRASH
Attending a football game is an experience, and when your team isn't any good, strong traditions help draw fans in and keep them entertained.

Illinois offers its fanbase almost nothing outside of what's highlighted above. It has the run-of-the-mill school songs and halftime performance from the band. It has a statue and a rock dedicated to Red Grange, undoubtedly the program's most iconic player. They also have choreographed and customized chants that are commonplace in pretty much every stadium you visit around the country.

The game-day experience in Champaign, Illinois is truly unremarkable, just like its football team.

I watched the avengers tonight so if we need someone... I'm more than willing to cheer extra hard tomorrow.
