Game Thread tOSU at Illinois, Nov 16, 12 ET, ESPN

Stanford will not jump us even if they pound USC...no fucking way the media can justify that when Stanford has lost to a Utah team that is now 1-6 in conference.
I know. Stanford jumping tOSU was never the point. It was to clearly separate tOSU from Bama/FSU. It worked on the media. Hell it worked on half of Buckeye fans and the BTN. It was slight of hand from the jump.

I hope Bama goes down and
Fo sho.

I'm one of the ones that said there was no way an undefeated tOSU would be left out. I greatly underestimated ESPN's influence. Not that tOSU has destroyed any argument against being left out.

I do find it fascinating that even College GameDay has started to reverse it's "ACC IS OMGZ AMAZING" position. I wonder how much influence the actual Bowls have on what ESPN pimps. I mean, if the bowl committees see a Bama fan base less likely to travel to a fourth title game in five years...and an FSU fan base not known for filling up stadiums across the country compared to a tOSU fan base that took over Cal's stadium already this year for a game against an unranked opponent....

It will be interesting if they (ESPN) start to wonder out loud if maybe tOSU does deserve a shot after all. They had a perfect opportunity to pile on today. The headline could've just as easily read "tOSU needs late td's to fend off B1G bottom feeder". Ya gotta wonder why it didn't.

I hope Bama goes down and we can just have the showdown we want. But no doubt it is interesting that ESPiN seemed to want to give us the benefit of the doubt today...certainly unfamiliar territory. I hate the system right now but unfortunately, it is what we have to deal with. I think a focused Bucks team under UFM can take anyone this year. But unfortunately our conference doesn't want to play ball (see UFM challenging the entire conference, he knows it could come down to that). I honestly think that Wisky, MSU, and Iowa (to some extent) will show strong in the bowls. Unfortunately, the perception of the Big Ten is just at an all time low.

I don't know way people are surprised by the pass defense. Purdont and State Penn were fools gold.

The pass rush has gotten much better, but it pretty clear OSU need's to get more athletic in the secondary. Namely in the nickle and dime. But thats not the entire problem, because we seem to have mentor lapses in zone. These occur almost always when we are ahead.

Until proven otherwise, I'm gonna stick to my guns here.

We're #3, forget everything else.

This is exactly what Buckyle was talking about (I don't know if it is in this thread or somewhere else).

The questions is whether or not Ohio State should be #2 over FSU and the even more pathetic ACC.

The fact that ESPN has successfully managed to shift the conversation to whether or not teams should jump OSU at #3 is utter bullshit.

No, no, guys. C'mon now. With your negative attitudes. ESPN is legit. Ohio State is beneath everything and everyone. The only way we get in is if the top ten all lose 3 games and we win every game by 310 points. Also, turtles are really just misunderstood squirrels. Wanna go huff paint and make miniature Bear Bryants out of origami?
Ummm...I'm gonna go ahead and use the bolded for my sig.

Its annoying but perfectly logical.

It gets CFB's clicking-est fan base clicking and creates overall drama. Drama is what they make money on.

Baylor and Stanford do not concern me personally.

You know that the last two posts on this forum before yours were made in the thread that post should have gone in, right?

You know that when you post in a thread it becomes an active one, right?

I was looking at the open B1G thread for some reason, my bad. I'm posting in the right one now. Not enough evidence to overturn my mistake. Call on the board stands.

Color me shocked at this ESPiN headline, even though it echoes the one bri pointed out a page back:

Ohio State blows past Illinois behind Hyde

Lost in the ennui that this game provoked in much of us is the fact that Carlos, already one whose ass is bad, really has found a burst and an extra level of face and body smashing drive that makes him a pure joy to watch. I don't know how the backfield is going to sort out next year, if we'll lose one or more like Bri'onte and/or Warren -- but man I hope all those guys are watching closely and taking notes.

You'll never believe this, but the main page headline now reads "Ohio State holds off Illinois." Florida State meanwhile gets credit for "ripping" Syracuse.

A team with a loss will not jump OSU if OSU wins out. Baylor probably will if they keep winning, but we'll jump them back with a win over Sparty. I also think Baylor will choke . . . because newbies usually don't know how to handle this kind of pressure (tonight? :). I am mildly concerned about Auburn's b.s. win over UGA today. If they win out, the media will be screaming for them to get a shot over us. Same w/ Missou., but I don't see the voters actually going along with the media for any one loss team.
