Game Thread tOSU at Cal Bears, Sep 14, 7 ET, Fox

From the article:

On the negative side, Ohio State is a thinly disguised professional team with more talent than most any other team in the country.... It's a factory in the truest sense, churning out championship product at any cost.... Ohio State dreams of matching Cal or Michigan in the classroom, as much as they'd never admit it.
Score: Ohio State 52, Cal 34

APR: Ohio State 982, Cal 935

So it looks like we've got scoreboard and mortarboard.

In return, Cal showed Ohio State what it's like to play football at a fabulous new facility with integrity and ingenuity. You know, with great weather and amateur players and all the rest.

Oh look we've been on probation and sanctioned the same amount of time! And they've had one more year of bowl bans than we have

Yeah! Well, there is that little thing about being on probation and sanctioned the same amount of time!

The Good news

1) KG and the offense
2) DL was able to pressure the QB and got some sacks
3) Front 7 on D was able to stop Cal's running game. (Before someone brings up Lasco picking up yards late in the 4th Quarter, at that point in the game the defense was giving them that play. Cal was not going to even make it close by taking 3-5 minutes running the ball for scores)

The Bad News

1) Tacking on the edges was bad.
2) We either don't have a scheme to stop WR screens or we can not execute the scheme we have.
3) DB have to make those picks. Imagine how we would view the defensive effort if they would have made just one of them. Now imagine how we would feel if they made both.

Cal has the most efficient passing attack in the country and no one here isn't happy with a win. Not much complaining going on in this thread anyway. Just picking deficiencies in the D and what they need to work on to become a Natl Contender. That's why it's the Defense discussion thread.

Actually it's 7, not 9. Only the first game was 9 b/c of Roby and Barnett....just sayin.

Teams will rack up yards, because on 2nd and 15 they are giving 10 yard passes all day. As long as Roby doesn't get beat one on one like he did yesterday, I'm pretty happy with that. The defense just needs to eliminate the big play, and this Cal game is more like 52-17.

I can't remember who had the interception go through his hands in the second half (fourth quarter?) which went to a Cal receiver for a completion (Cal scored later on the drive). If the int is made, then your prediction would've been only a Cal TD off.

it was corey "pittsburg" brown who missed the pick on the 3rd n 20 but I do not believe Cal scored on that drive.

And the majority of the 7 are front-line...and it was the secondary that showed the most weaknesses.

I will say, I love how CB2 is playing this year. He REALLY seems to have learned the value of playing under control, not biting on fakes etc. He's been a savior in that secondary. Super happy for him.
