tOSU Admission Standards

Food:
- Apollo's (open till 3 or 4 AM, i forgot. Good Gyros and beers; great for late night study...especially the beer part); On High Street.
- Raising Canes; On High Street.
- Cluck-U Chicken (this is before Rasing Canes started to gain more fame, never had it, but heard it's pretty decent); on High Street.
- Flying Pizza (New York Style. Served slices or whole); On High Street.
- LaBomba ("Burrito that is bigger than your head"-that's their slogan); On High Street.
- Diaspora (Korean food. GREAT!); on High Street.
- Yau's (Chinese food. Awesome food); on High & W 9th Ave. intersection.
- Eddie George Bar & Grill (duh, of course); on High

Music (Concert):
- New Port; on High.

Bar/Clubs
- Ugly Tuna (live band....); on high, in the Gateway Center
- McFadden's; on high.
- Panini; on high
* Arena District in Downtown Columbus has a good collections of bars and clubs, where a lot of students would take the "party bus" to downtown instead of driving.

As E.B. and many have suggested, nothing beats house parties. Music, girls, alcohol...etc. However, as an older fart, i also want to echo some posters here, STUDY HARD, then play hard BUT responsibly and within a reasonable limit. Enjoy the best 4-5 years of your life.

Electron gives great advice except for Hound Dogs. I literally fly in from Chicago at least a couple of times during the "offseason" just to get some Adriatico's. Do you understand what kind of endorsement this is? I'm from CHICAGO and I fly in to Columbus for ADRIATICO's! :wink2:

I gave the "help is on the way" guy one of his best lines. "My feet are cold, my hands like ice, and all I want, is to buy a slice!!!" Help is on the way!
Ahhhh!! I haven't had Adriatico's forever, and it is still one of my favorite pizzas. I remember back in the Cooper years when I was in school, they had a Monday night special, one topping extra large for $5 for carryout. Living in good old Alma Whacker Patterson (what a name!!) on south campus at the time, Mondays were always Adriatico's night!

Sadly, this list is missing a legend, Papa Joe's. That place was great. I had the unfortunate experience to watch the place burn down (lived at 101 e 11th that year). Any of the older alums know what I am talking about, that place was classic.

I am currently a sophomore in high school. They weight the honors and obviously AP classes at my school, so I have over a 4.0 this year and last year. On my pre-ACT I scored a 28 and on my pre-SAT I scored around an 1800. I am going to keep taking AP/Honor classes and continue studying for both the ACT and SAT, but what else do you recommend to help my chances of getting into TOSU?

Honors and AP courses are very important. The more math and science (especially courses with required labs), the better. An increased progression in grades is as important as the GPA. As for the GPA, OSU looks at the demographic makeup of your high school and compares it with other high schools across the country. A lower GPA in a tougher academic environment carries more weight than a higher GPA in a less challenging academic environment.

OSU has started to look at senioritis and has revoked admissions for students who blew off the last half of their senior year. OSU does not factor in the essay part of the SAT but you will need to write an essay as part of the admission process. Extracurricular activities are important especially in cases where you are considered a team captain. Part time employment is also an important consideration.

Good luck throughout the process.

- don't neglect the music scene. it's underrated, but it's there and generally pretty great. keep a heads up for the CD101 low dough shows.

- help is on the way

The CD101 low dough shows are awesome. I saw Spoon at the LP for $5 last December.

Help is on the way.... LOL! My favorite rap from him was "Go Bucks! LSU sucks!" lol

I knew someone who had a full ride to UCLA who blew off the last semester and the Bruins ended up blowing him off, too. Here in Miami, certain public high schools are quite noteworthy for producing excellent graduates. I was mentioned over in the football recruiting forum that incoming frosh Jaamal Berry is going to graduate from one of the best public high schools in the states, which I think prepares him quite well for Ohio State.

with just going through the college application progress and enrolling at denison this past summer, i honestly think you will get into Ohio state with a 25 or above on the act. As long as you have a decent gpa, anyone i have talked to has gotten in, so im sure you will have success, and a great time at OSU

I used to bartend there in the early 90's. That place certainly was legendary - it was the only High street bar that did not allow under 21 through the doors. Kegs and Eggs before the Michigan game is something I'm sad my kids will never experience.

Papa Joe's was an Ohio State institution. Sadly missed.
