tOSU 73 vs N Carolina 77 (in NYC)

I'm watching the game right now. Unbelievable how cold we were shooting the ball in the first half. Amazing against a team like UNC that we made a game of it. If even a few of Buford or Diebs shots go down early, this would have been a much different game. Unfortunately, if we live and die by the jump shot, we're going to have games like that. As always, I loved the energy and leadership of PJ when he got in there, and I thought Lighty did a good job on both ends.

Once these guys get a few games under their belts and start to really click together, I think they have a chance to be a very good team. I think we'll need Dallas to step up a little on offense though. Gotta have some type of inside presence.

As a side, Turner and Buford both looked like they got visably frustrated and forced some things. But credit the team for hanging tough and never quitting. As several have said already, last years team quit on a few of these types of games. This year's team is too experienced to do that. These guys know with the talent they have, they're never out of it. I love that.

Bring on Cal!

It's early in the season, but it seems that tOSU is one true PG (Crater) and one true C (cough Mullens should have stayed cough) from being a legitimate top 5 team with NC aspirations. That's not to say this team won't be able to achieve a lot, because there are a lot of players who can get hot and score quickly, and their defense is pretty solid. But when they're cold shooting the ball, you'll have games like last night, or maybe even worse if it's against another elite team that is playing well.

Here's my .02,

I think we should try PJ at point with ET, Lauderdale, Lightly and Diebler. Bring in Buford as the 6th man. I think this gives us the best chance. IMO PJ is a solid ball handler and provides a spark on defense. From what I've seen on Buford, he is very streaky. When he is off, he doesn't look to pass, he just keeps shooting. I don't think he is a solid defender yet either. So if you bring him in as the 6th man for a few minutes you can see how he's playing. If he's hot, roll with it, if not, pull him out.

Also, the difference in the game was that 6 point swing at the end of the first half. We missed and then they hit. That is very hard to come back from.

Madsen does not deserve to be on the court. Total liability. We really need for another big to step up and get some minutes when Lauderdale gets in foul trouble.
I guess I need to clarify. Lauderdale is a player. He is an impact player on the defensive side of the ball.

When he is not in the game there is a talent drop off in the center. We really need Madsen and Z to step up and be good role players (make gimme layups on offense and box his man out on defense). Another big man stepping up is crucial for this season to be successful considering the likelihood of Lauderdale to get in foul trouble.

Hate to revisit this but reading the last few posts I just realized something.

Ohio State was a blown call from tying the game with :11 left. There was an obvious goal tend by UNC on a Madsen layup earlier that was somehow missed by the refs.
