Purdue is a very good team, and we would have had to play a near flawless game to beat them on their court, but the two teams simply weren't playing by the same set of rules today. How is a team supposed to compete when they don't know what constitutes a foul? The whistle fest early in the 1st half sent a clear message to our guys that they had to second guess every move they made, lest incidental, or Purdue initiated contact (or no contact) would result in a foul. Forget about setting screens or picks, they're illegal for OSU, while PU can throw a shoulder into the ball carrier at will. PU was in the bonus shortly after the halfway point of the 1st. With all the extra possessions and free throw opportunities, it's a wonder they didn't win by 30-40. I'm not trying to excuse the Bucks poor play, but it would have taken an effort of mythical proportions to pull out a win today.
You gotta give credit to Ed Hightower, he gave maximum effort for all 40 minutes. Even with his team up by 20+ in the final minutes, he never let up on finding ways to screw us, saving some of his most creative calls for crunch time. He deserves the game ball, which I'm sure he had no problem taking for himself.
