I thought this year it was the ACC-B1G Challenge? :wink2:

It was a throw-away comment, but Coach Matta was joking around on his show Monday about the two conferences. Basically joked that he didn't know who was in what anymore and didn't know if the two conferences were merged.

To be fair, I have a difficult time parsing their schedule to conclude they're overrated when we're ranked right there with them and have played lesser opponents.

I'm still in wait and see mode with our Buckeyes. I didn't expect to be ranked in the top 10 to open the season and I'm waiting for evidence to support it. Winning at Cameron would go a long way towards it. :)
A Georgia football and Ohio State basketball fan? You people make me sick.

Buckeyes brought a penknife to a gunfight that night -- look at that roster.

Won't be the case tomorrow.

You must have missed the Blue Devils' loss to Lehigh in the NCAA tournament in the Round of 64 in their final game of last season. You don't lose to Lehigh and then all of a sudden be a Final Four team the next year without adding anyone more significant than Rasheed Sulaimon. Duke's performance will look less impressive as the season wears on because their advantages over other teams so far are preparation, experience and shooting, their weaknesses are depth and defense. Duke ultimately is a team that may make the Sweet 16 but they are on the borderline, a team that is going to be for all intents and purposes between #10 and #20 in the country this season in my opinion. They might not sink that low in the rankings, but they aren't going to be an Elite 8 team unless they get really lucky and they surely don't have the makeup of an F4 team. S16 is likely their ending point. Of course, sometimes teams get lucky and get a double-digit seed there in the S16, so there's always a chance of a luck advancement for Duke but the type of team they have is typically at most a Sweet 16 team. I think OSU also has a S16 type team but is better in some key areas and has more potential for development this season.

Dukie V chimes in, says he gives a slight edge to Duke, because "Cameron Crazies, the development of Cook, and the three veterans - winning experience when you look at guys like Plumlee, Kelly, and certainly you look at the shooting ability of Curry"

So aside from the Cameron Crazies, there isn't a real reason to give Duke an edge, he just ignored the ways OSU was equal to Duke in the other categories. If you paid attention to OSU at all, you would recognize the development of Scott, he just hasn't played as much as Cook for Duke because OSU has a deeper team than Duke. Then the more ridiculous point, that Plumlee, Kelly and Curry have winning experience, as if the OSU players don't? Craft, Smith and Thomas starting on a Final Four team don't have winning experience? It's possible that the homecourt advantage will make the difference, but you have to leave it at that because there's no discernible advantage Duke has in terms of player development or winning experience or even shooting.

• Matchup to watch: Duke did not have an answer for Deshaun Thomas last year. He scored 13 of his 18 points in the first half as Ohio State built a 19-point lead. Ryan Kelly is 4 inches taller but can’t stay in front of Thomas. The Blue Devils could give Kelly help, or try Josh Hairston or Amile Jefferson off the bench.

• Notable: The Big Ten has won the ACC/Big Ten Challenge the past three years after losing the first 10. … Ohio State has won its past four games in the Challenge; Duke is 11-2 overall and 4-0 at home. . . . The series between the programs is tied 3-3. … Thomas is seven points from a career 1,000. … Duke’s five starters average more than 30 minutes per game; only two do for Ohio State.

• Next: Northern Kentucky, 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Value City Arena

Aaron Craft handled full-court pressure at Florida in his second game as a freshman. He and a number of his current Ohio State teammates played a man down at Kansas last season and acquitted themselves well. They also won games at Michigan State and Wisconsin.

?Those guys have been in big-time environments, so there shouldn?t be the shock of it being loud or whatever,? coach Thad Matta said.

Nothing in college basketball, however, is quite like 9,314-seat Cameron Indoor Stadium, the sacred sardine can in which the No. 4-ranked Buckeyes will play No. 2 Duke tonight in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

For all the notches the Buckeyes have carved on the road the past two seasons, winning 16 of 22 games on opponents? home courts, ?I don?t think we can go into this game underestimating what it?s going to be like,? Craft said before the team left for Durham, N.C., yesterday. ?That wouldn?t be very smart on our part.?

For one, Duke has won 96 consecutive games in Cameron against nonconference opponents, a school record and the longest active streak in the country.

For another, most if not all the Blue Devils well remember the 22-point beat-down the Buckeyes gave them in Value City Arena last season.

?I know I haven?t forgotten,? Duke senior forward Ryan Kelly said after practice yesterday. ?When you lose that badly, you don?t feel good for days. I couldn?t sleep. Winning is a great feeling, but lo

Amir Williams has to have the game of his life tonight. Its time for him to finally step up and become a good BiG player. We don't need him to be great yet, just good. Deshaun has to have a good percentage shooting but I'm not worried about him. I think a big play from Sam or LaQ could spark us to a first half run that takes some of the crowd out. You aren't going to take that entire place out of it for the whole game but if you could take them out of it for just a little while you have a chance to settle down and play basketball. Tonight is definitely going to make me miss playing at St Johns. :(

Lets hope Sam can get a dunk face on Plumlee or someon early and put the fear of God in em! Go Bucks!!!!
