Absolutely ridiculous, Illini are already going to the line for the rest of the game.

This team doesn't even deserve to be in the top 20 playing like this.

I don't think they will be once the next poll comes out. To be totally honest, unless some of these shots start going down soon and unless some leaders show up on the court, I sometimes wonder if this team is going to miss the tournament altogether. I think, after this performance today, it is entirely within the realm of possibility.

They've now faced 3 ranked teams and have gotten beaten by all 3. This isn't a very good team right now.

Woody would be playing the kids and the starters wouldn't have left the locker room.

Something's gotta give with this team. They are a complete and total mess today. I have no idea how this collection of kids took Dook to the limit in Cameron and played Kansas tough.

I didn't expect a lot this year and was surprised by the lofty preseason ranking. But the Duke game caused me to rethink this team, and even the Kansas game left me believing they're better than I expected this year.

But today's performance is somewhat alarming. The second halves against Duke and Kansas may turn out to be more accurate examples of what this team really is at this point. Thad's got his work cut out for him next week.

Yep, I'm just hoping we can be semi-competitive in the conference. I have no more thoughts of even sniffing the conference semi-final, we'd be lucky to make it past the first game we play.

Not sure if it's been discussed yet, but the biggest issue with this team is there's no leadership, there's no one on this team that will get in the faces of the teammates and say just get me the ball and i'll take you home

That's true but I'll offer my input in saying, right now who could take us home? I know Deshaun can, but right now no one is doing much.

Craft gets thrown to the ground with no call. Jeez I know we are going to lose but that's annoying

Yeah, I've noticed the Illini have been pushing guys to the ground without calls, and it is really frustrating.

As for a leader, I think the problem is that everyone on the team has the same mentality as their opponents, everything just goes through DT, and DT accepts that role without being the leader, just the lead scorer.

But he isn't wearing that uniform any more. This is now a transition year. Time to roll a ten man bench and figure out who has what it takes.

Embarrassing how little OSU cares their asses are getting kicked. No fight in them. Need a Turner/Lighty/Sully to get rest to give a damn

I think Titus says it best, and is right, at times, they just don't look like they care.

I would think this would be Craft's role, but I dunno if his play is cancelling that out

The problem is that the expectations are way too high for this team. They are young. Their confidence appears to be shattered, if shooting percentage from the field is any indication, and they don't seem to be running any offensive scheme. Craft should be leading more, but he is in his own personal shooting slump. It is painful to watch, but like Woody said...

Very true. Leadership and actual players with ability to put the ball in the basket. There seems to be zero leaders and only one player that can score. Not a recipe for a team that will remotely compete for a conference crown. I think an NCAA tournament appearance is a solid goal for this group.

I'm not sure that is true. Craft is a leader, he just doesn't possess the offensive game to put a team on his back.

I posted this in the Duke game thread and think it still holds 100% true:
Yeah...if you told me before tip-off OSU would lose this game by 5, I honestly think I would have been surprised they kept it that close. I also think I would have felt pretty good after a 5 point loss, but I don't...at all.

There are glaring weaknesses everywhere. Unfortunately something that should be our biggest strength, is actually a huge weakness that won't get better any time soon. Our athletic ability to get near the rim is really something special. Unfortunately guys like Sam Thompson, Shannon Scott, Aaron Craft....they just can't finish. Unless it's a dunk (in Thompson's case) or a wide open lay-up, there just isn't any touch. None. And unfortunately you have that ability or you don't. Some games may be better than others but scoring close to the rim is about skill and ability, and these guys just don't have it.

Craft is great defensively, Scott has improved ten-fold and looks so much better with the ball in his hands, Sam Thompson showed a lot more confidence as well.....but that inability to score within 10 feet of the hoop is killer.

I agree with the assessment that Ross probably needs more time with Deshaun Thomas on the court. If Thomas and Ross aren't on the court at the same time, there is only 1 legitimate scoring option on the court for the Bucks. And really, there are issues with Thomas' shot selection as well. People like Brandon Castel can bitch and moan all they want, but did they see some of the forced shots Thomas took? He didn't make a single forced shot all night....which brings me full circle.

The difference in the game was how they played Ohio States wings. It isn't rocket science. Duke quit helping on dribble penetration in the second half and forced Ohio State to finish at the rim or on spot up jump-shots. And our wings struggled their collective asses off to put the ball in the hoop. And the rare time Thomas did get it in the second half, he took pretty terrible shots.

Pressed for an answer right now, I think OSU will not live up to expectations this year. I think Indiana is obviously the best in the league and Michigan is probably better as well. Minnesota probably has as much talent as OSU this year as well. OSU will certainly make the NCAA tournament, but the Big 10 schedule is going to be a dog-fight for them. Teams like Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan State, etc....none of those games are a given with the lack of offense this team possesses. Going on the road this year and getting W's will be at a premium for this squad.

On a positive note, I really think Amir is a force inside. Evan plays within himslef and takes great shots which is a positive. Shannon Scott can get inside the paint whenever he wants which is probably the best offensive characteristic any PG can have and his handle looks infinitely better than it did last year. Sam Thompson looked much more confident with the ball and I was glad he took a few confident jump shots even though they didn't drop. Just the look of those guys was supremely better than last year. They've grown a ton. I wish Aaron could become a legit threat offensively but until he develops a consistent jump shot it isn't happening. The only way for a PG to be really successful offensively without a jump-shot is to be an insane finisher at the rim and have crazy play-making ability a la Rajon Rondo, which Aaron just doesn't have. Great defender, just a little short offensively. It probably sounds like I'm being rough on him, but for OSU to be a legit threat this year, his offense was critical because Thompson, Smith, and Ravenal/Williams just aren't enough offensively to play at an elite level. I was hoping he had turned the corner or developed that game, but he isn't close.

Ohio State is exceptionally athletic, I think they have high character guys, I think they do have leadership. But they don't have guards who can consistently score.

Did anyone else notice how good Abrams looked shooting the ball inside the paint? Craft, Thompson, Scott...these guys just don't finish at a high level and it's killer because it leaves DeShaun Thomas on an island as a scorer.

This team is kind of damned if you, damned if you don't. They can't play in games that are half-court set heavy because they can't shoot, and when they pick the pace up and force an up and down game, I think they look fluid, but they don't have finishers from the wing. The pace the game is being played at today and the amount of possessions they have had, to only have 48 points with 4 minutes left in the game is horrid. The shots have been there, but they've either been passed up or missed.
