Fiutak of College Football News has been quizzed in recent weeks about the pending ND vs tOSU Fiesta Bowl match-up. His takes
(last week) ND is going to get drilled by tOSU.
(this week) I really like Ohio State in this one, ND will be beaten badly.

Normally Pete Fiutak is not that emphatic, moreover he often has a good read on late season close games, let alone blow-outs.

Could it be true that many are seriously under-estimating how good the Buckeyes really are right now, and that Fiutak's take is closest to the money?

Is anybody really impressed with ND's wide receivers. I know they both have more than 1000 yards and that Smarga (spelling whatever) guy is an all-american, but they just don't seem that dominate. Now, our DBs aren't up to the caliber of Fox and Gamble, or Springs and Winfield, but they should be good enough to shut them down. And we all know, their running game ain't going anywhere.

Shut them down? Probably not. Slow them down...I sure hope so. I'm sure Weis will find a way to exploit that mismatch as many times as possible. I'd be interested to see how often they'd try and throw it short. Assuming he would drop back into coverage, It'd be interesting to see how well A.J. would be able to cover their receivers. They'll be able to score on us, but the real question is how long will their offense be kept on the field?

right, but in order to keep the ND offense off the field wouldn't this require the vanilla tressel ball style, which plays more into the Irish defense's strength (run defense), rather than the wide open passing attack, which would better attack ND's most glaring defensive weakness????

read the quote in mili's post. LV's talking about how USC's D couldn't keep ND off of the field. Our defense will not struggle nearly as much with this task.

he's not talking about playing ball control. he's talking about succeeding in forcing a 3 and out occasionally, to prevent Weis from hogging the TOP.

I, for one, have been quite impressed with their recievers. Particularly Samardzija. Fasano is a very, very good TE as well.

i'm impressed with them as well. however, I do not feel their skill players are as tough to stop as Texas' (w/ nearly equal talent at WR/TE, and more speed in the backfield). Weis is the wildcard, but their defense will more than compensate for his prowess... IMO.

They allow 119 YPG. I don't think Pittman, Wells, and Smith will have that much of a problem running the ball.
