That was the season that led to the 06 Rose Bowl.

- pretty sure the 04 season led to the 05 rose bowl.

Afterwards the 05 season led to the USC-Texas 06 Rose Bowl.

Unless i'm just not understanding what your saying, which is possible given my lack of sleep today.

the PSU/FSU game was absolute garbage, at first it was funny how many mistakes each team was making. then it was very funny. then it was irritating. then it was worrisome, because i was afraid that the game might not ever end and it would suck everyone watching it into some kind of black hole of awfulness. terrible game.

the boise state fiesta bowl was an incredible ending to a good game, but i don't think that taken as a whole it was all that awesome. i'd put it in my top ten, but probably not 1st overall. still, overall that's a pretty good list i think.

I still don't see how an overtime National Championship game (the first ever), between #1 and #2... David vs. Goliath isn't the #1 game of the decade... but hey maybe I'm looking at it with the wrong pair of glasses.

Bullshit. Here are the top ten games of the decade:

10. Ohio State 34, Notre ame 20 (2005 Season - just tonight Musburger said it was the start of Cheesburger's downward spiral)
9. Ohio State 14, Michigan 3 (2007 season)
8. Ohio State 37, Michigan 21 (2004 season "Meet Troy Smith")
7. Ohio State 21, Michigan 10 (2009 season - "LLick Rod's 2nd")
6. Ohio State 42, Michigan 7 (2008 season "The Blowout")
5. Ohio State 14, Michigan 9 (2002 season "The Championship Season")

Agreed.

Texas-Michigan Rose Bowl 06 was a better choice.
And they went right back to mediocrity. Maybe if Schiano had sustained the success it would have been a worthwhile inclusion.

Hence why I called it their Cinderella season. Much like South Florida a couple years ago. Schiano had a great opportunity to pull in GREAT recruits from the Jersey area. Don Bosco could have been a feeder school to Rutgers and they'd have a competitive team every year.

I remember that game. Louisville kicked the game winning fieldgoal and had it called back from a timeout. On the 2nd attempt they missed and Rutgers went crazy. It was an extremely entertaining game and had high stakes. I don't disagree with its place on the list.

Yep. I was in Cincy the following week and stayed at the same hotel as the Rutgers team (they were playing UC).

This was also the week of The Game (the also mentioned on this list) and I watched the first half in our hotel's bar with a bunch of the players and coaches before they took off to get waxed by UC.

They were the media darlings of 2006 before this game

Ten of the most thrilling college football games of the decade - USATODAY.com

3. Ohio State 31, Miami 24 (2002 season) (Fiesta Bowl)
2. Texas 41, USC 38 (2005 season) (Rose Bowl)
1. Boise State 43, Oklahoma 42 (2006 season) (Fiesta Bowl)
I don't see how a meaningless bowl game - regardless of how entertaining - deserves a higher rating than two national championship games with thrilling, last-minute finishes. Move #1 down to #3, and make the NC games 1-A and 1-B, IMHO.

Good list, I guess. As with any similar list, there will be a lot of complaints. I still think that when a national championship game goes into double-overtime, and you have a top-3 offense vs. a top-3 defense (I forget the exact rankings), and all the other weird story-lines going in, nothing can beat it. Not a last-minute heroic comeback by Vince Young, or even a gutsy 2-point conversion by Boise State in the second overtime.

I also think that, in 2007, Appalachian State was better than Stanford, and USC was better than Michigan. Therefore, the Stanford upset of USC belongs on the list higher than Michigan's upset to Appy State.
