Kudos to all of you who tried to pick 5 songs from the likes of:
  • The Beatles
  • The Rolling Stones
  • The Who
  • Rush
  • Led Zeppelin
  • Yes
  • Pink Floyd
  • etc...
My tastes are far more varied than that list implies; but I like so many songs from all of those bands that my head would explode if I had to pick just 5 from any one of them. More kudos to anyone who tries the same with Stevie Ray Vaughn. Didn't see his name in the thread - might've missed it though.

The same was probably true of ZZ Top at one point, but for now I'll just see if I can remember 5 songs...
  1. La Grange
  2. Tush
  3. Just Got Paid Today
  4. Blue Jean Blues
  5. Sharp Dressed Man / She's Got Legs
Yeah, I'm sure there's a bunch I'm forgetting.
But if I had to make it my favorite band though, I have to admit that my favorite is not one that most people have even heard of: The Jeff Healey Band. BB King called Jeff's guitar technique the best he'd ever seen.

  1. See The Light
  2. Blue Jean Blues (remake of ZZ Top song: blows the Top away)
  3. Confidence Man
  4. My Little Girl (personal reasons :wink2: )
  5. Angel Eyes

MY MORNING JACKET

1. Strangulation (At Dawn) - Though the youtube video is excellent, the cd version carries more of the guttural impact that this version doesn't have. Still excellent, though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_PFmVihUok
2. Golden (It Still Moves) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LJ-rTduARY
3. Steam Engine (It Still Moves) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYo7BVa_fXk
4. The Bear (The Tennessee Fire) http://www.mymorningjacket.com/MP3/My_Morning_Jacket-The_Bear.mp3
5. Bermuda Highway (At Dawn) http://www.mymorningjacket.com/MP3/My_Morning_Jacket-Bermuda_Highway.mp3

I must throw in a 6th. It's off of the recent double-live cd that MMJ released, Okonokos. The song is "I Think I'm Going To Hell." A sample is below. In time, this song may become my favorite MMJ song. The audio is so-so but still decent enough to understand how awesome the song is. What might not be picked up so well in this clip is the searing guitar lick that comes from some place unworldly. Please listen to the whole sample, especially the last half. There is a lot of Pink Floyd in it.

If you download the mp3 from Limewire or somewhere like that, make sure that it's from Okonokos instead of The Tennessse Fire.

If you like Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers, Neil Young, and just simply bands that rock and have a spine, pick up some MMJ. MMJ is the best band I've seen live. Bar none. The lead singer, Jim James, has actually choked on his hair in concert.

Guadalcanal Diary -

Jamboree

Cattle Prod

Watusi Rodeo

Ghost on the Road

Lonely Street

This band was OSU to REMs scUM in the 80s. GD was similar, but better musically and lyrically, to REM, but, somehow REM took off instead and have pretty much sucked ever since.

REM went to Georgia, not scUM...and I think they're good. :tongue2:

As for my top...Green Day

Minority
Good Riddance
Geek Stink Breath
When I Come Around
