I think this list has more to do with the scenery around the area more so than quality of tailgating although LSU's ranking seemed to be based not so much on scenery but food.

By the way, Ohio State fans have no doubt noticed their school did not make the list, despite the 100,000-plus passionate faithful surrounding the Horseshoe each game in one of college football's best and most spirited gatherings. That's because Road Warrior's alma mater recently lost to the Buckeyes and hasn't gotten over it, yet.

Can't say that I disagree. The zoo along Lane Avenue has increasingly taken away from our tailgating scene. Wow, what's not to love about 50K rednecks with no affiliation to the university standing around drinking all morning, screaming profanities at, throwing beers at and occasionally assaulting visiting fans, picking fights with "college boys." Great environment.

Holbrook was right. We do have a problem. She just didn't have the balls to take on the real problem and chose instead to go for the easy p.r. stunt of harassing a few alumni enjoying themselves at private tailgates. Gee, on the other hand, has no problems taking on private business interests that he feels are damaging to the university (see: South Campus bars). He's also not going to go about harassing alumni as a 2.5 billion dollar fundraising campaign is about to kick off.

You are as out of touch as she was: that "scene" is incredibly tame compared with my own late-90s college years.

Great point ORD. The Scum game last year lane Ave was more than a zoo. esitmated over 100,000 people there just for the frenzy.

I hope so, but I'm basing my views on walks to the Varsity Club at last year's Penn State game and the Texas game the year before. I didn't see much improvement. People in the parking lots were certainly paranoid about the liquor nazis, but the redneck rampage was in full swing along Lane Avenue.

While Holbrook was right about a general problem, she was incredibly wrong about what the problem was and how to go about solving it. She let the state and city make it an alcohol issue rather than a behavior issue.

Put 50 undercover cops out on Lane Avenue every game, but instead of having them looking to bust anyone with an open container have them actually enforce the crimes that the drinking "supposedly" leads to--assault, aggravated menacing, drunk and disorderly. Throw the people who are really causing the problem in jail for the weekend rather than write masses of open container citations, and you'll solve the problem. Then anyone, redneck or alum who wants to simply enjoy the game and some beers without causing problems can do so in peace.

We are the only school in the Big Ten that doesn't allow drinking at private, parking lot tailgates. That's frickin' ridiculous.

I notice that you went to the trouble of editing out that Holbrook was "right about a general problem."

Have you ever seen the video that the administration made during a Michigan game? If so, how can you watch that and say there was not a problem?
