A multi-year contract seems almost like a negative for a positional coach. If the goal is onward and upward, why lock yourself into a positional coach on a morally repugnant team.....when you could coach the best RB room in the country for one year and turn that into an OC or HC somewhere else. He was almost the CSU head coach a few years ago......now he's moving downwards because of guaranteed years? Dumb. The Rivals guys said the entire offensive staff, except Hartline, were told to explore other options as no job was safe depending on who was hired as OC. Only because of the time it took to get to O'Brien and then Kelly did the issue become moot.
Alford did not get an extension or raise this year, so in one sense getting a multi year contract an raise was likely the right thing to do.
Alford was very helpful with non-RB recruiting in Florida, but the misses and mistakes in RB recruiting cancels that out.
As the title of the thread says Meh.
There has to be more to the story. Weird timing.A multi-year contract seems almost like a negative for a positional coach.
