Tom Herman plans to honor Cardale Jones by attending his graduation

AUSTIN, Texas — Tom Herman’s had quite a ride back to Texas. The one-time UT grad assistant, who spent two seasons as the head coach at Houston, is back with the Longhorns as the head man who is trying to put a jolt back into a program that has been in a tailspin.

The 40-year-old Herman went 22-4 at UH after helping Ohio State win the national title in 2014 as the Buckeyes offensive coordinator, where he proved to be one of the sharpest minds in football. Asked what he missed about his days as an assistant Friday, Herman spoke about missing the relationships he had with his QBs and the bond you can build from all that time spent together in the position room and being so involved in their lives.

One of his proteges who made dramatic strides both as a player and person is Cardale Jones. The Buffalo Bills quarterback, who led OSU to that national title, had more than his share of struggles early in his career with the Buckeyes, especially academically. But Herman is proud to say that on May 7, he and his wife Michelle will fly from the Big 12 meetings in Arizona to Columbus to watch Jones graduate from Ohio State.

“They told me Migos and Chance the Rapper were gonna be here (in Austin) on Sunday, the seventh and wanted to meet me,” Herman told FOX Sports. “I said ‘No, I’m gonna be in Columbus.’

I thought you Texans didn't tax yourselves, which is why you show so well on every metric from childhood poverty to illiteracy.
Lol. No income tax. Property they tax the shit out of. Every time they they cut school funding, school districts jack up taxes. Of my 2.4% property tax. 1.5 or 1.7 is the school tax.

No State Income tax, but yeah, property taxes can get steep, depending on where you live. I have no complaints, though. One of the best places to live, imho.

Word is that Herman is gonna surprise a lot of folks this fall.........should be interesting. :urban2:

GO BUCKS!!!!

Yeah, Tax isn't much but man... if they can't jack the rates up they come up with a "oh we've undervalued the houses so your property value is gonna go up like 80%" I've had several of those living just outside of Austin

Surprise? How can Texas being good be a surprise? It's not like they don't have the fan base, the facilities, the talent, the money MONEY. That and the fact that they've taken their biggest rival off their schedule for the foreseeable future, Baylor is finally dead - again -, Nebraska is in the Big 10, Colorado is in the Pac 12, Mizzou is in the SEC, Kansas is awful, T-Tech sucks, Okie State chokes, Iowa State is terrible except when they play Iowa and how much longer can the ol' coach at K-State remain upright? I mean, other than Okie, that conference is a walk in the park on a sunny day.

Yeah, except for the Strong/late Brown years. The only question mark for me is Tim Beck, though Herman is one of the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Four-star QB Rising discusses flip from Oklahoma to Texas
California signal-caller Cameron Rising flipped his commitment from Oklahoma to Texas
EJ Holland - 15 hours ago

Cameron Rising shook up the recruiting world on Saturday.

The four-star prospect out of Newbury Park (Calif.) flipped his commitment from Oklahoma to Texas. While his social media mentions haven’t been friendly, Rising is ecstatic about his decision.

“I find some of the comments funny,” Rising said with a laugh. “But the Texas fans have my back. Academics played a big role. I think with Texas, it’s going to be a challenge for me to help turn it around. It’s going to show a lot about my character.”

Perhaps the biggest reason for Rising’s flip, however, was new Texas head coach Tom Herman.

“Tom Herman is a big reason,” Rising said. “He’s a great coach. I know he’s about to turn that program around. He has so much energy. You never catch him down. It’s all fast-paced.”

Rising is the second quarterback commit in UT’s 2018 class. He joins four-star Oklahoma signal-caller Casey Thompson, who picked the Longhorns last week.

Or maybe the OK AD starts looking to replace ol' Big Game Bob...
Dont know where they'd go to improve. He can pretty much win the Big 12 most years, and though that probably still won't get in the CFP, they can put shiny plaques and trophies on the wall and he can pad his win % and the schools. He's OU's best HC since Switzer

It'll come down to whether Herman turns around Tejas or not. Okie should come into the RRS a big favorite despite still pulling the plunger slivers out of their rectum from their visit to The Horseshoe. If Tejas wins and goes on to an 8 or 9 win season, watch how quickly that seat gets hot under Big Game Bob and his bag of dicks. Personally, I'm rooting for the dick muncher. I'm stayin'. Enjoyin' my longhorn tears.
