Still have to say that playing an in-state school is one of the best decisions ever made by the OSU administration. Economically, we keep the funds in-state. Crucial in these bad economic times. It's better to hand a Toledo or OU or Youngstown State $400,000 than a TCU, Pitt or some other 'body-bag' team. If it helps an Ohio college keep up their athletic program so much the better.
Second, having the kids that OSU didn't recruit/sign, etc. get to play in the 'Shoe is a once in a lifetime thing for them. Like/Love/Hate OSU or not, all Ohio televisions get the Buckeyes on the tube, so every football player would want to play in the 'Shoe as a Buckeye or an opponent. This helps more of them do so.
Finally, it gives some of these 'second-tier' kids (nothing derogatory intended, but MAC is second tier etc) a Walter Mitty daydream - I imagine myself breaking free for the winning touchdown against the Buckeyes listening to 105,000 fans yelling and screaming....that is also a neat thing.
It kinda seems like this thread is a 'Walter Mitty' type of thing and it's great. Hey, eventually one of these teams WILL win, and those dreams will come true. Hope I'm alive to see it. And think how those kids will feel, after OSU loses their first game of the year against Wittenberg, Oberlin, whomever, goes undefeated the rest of the way, winning the BCS championship (given a ring with 12 diamonds and one piece of coal). They'll say for the rest of their lives, yeah, we beat OSU in 21xx when they won the national championship.....great stuff.
