2021 TN TE Hudson Wolfe (Tennessee Decommit, Ole Miss Commit)

I disagree if TEs are that important. Clemson' TE didn't even have 100yds, and we all know that OSU ever utilizes the TE. TEs are nice luxury to have and can create mismatches if they're athletic enough. But im todays offenses, I'd still put a solid LT, versatile RB and premier WR over a TE. Losing is honestly a "who cares" scenario. Even without him the 2021 class could be legendary, and even without him the offense for the next few years will be elite.

I think that is fair critique in college game where you can mismatch elite talent against average/poor players easier at Skill positions like WR and RB.

my comment probably leans more towards NFL.

I'd say the smart CFB offenses have rapidly taken the mismatch idea from the NFL playbooks and thrive on slot WR's and RB's killing LB's and Safeties trying to play those edge defender roles. Add in all the mobile QB's at both levels to make you pay if you try to cheat to much to help cover those guys and it's just murder to be a DC anymore. TE's could do the same thing (pressure on those edge defenders) but the truly elite one's are few and far between.

Give me KJ Hill or Rondale Moore lined up on someones 3rd corner all day long and my offense is going to hurt them.

Yeah....When I made my point about TE, I mostly had Mark Andrews and George Kittle in mind. Both guys are pretty invaluable to the offenses they play in for exact reason you stated. Cheat too much on the run, they kill you down the middle. Focus to much on passing game, and they'll gash you for 5-6 yards a carry. It's lethal.

Yeah, but elite dual threat TEs like that are few and far between in the nfl (the 2 you mentioned along with Kelce and Gronk and very few else) .

And to bring this convo back to Wolfe, good for him on staying home, but he was more of a luxury for OSU. 2021 will most likely be Ruckert, Stover and Royer, and possibly bringing Hamilton back. And that's enough for Wilson to work with. All those guys could fit the mold of what OSU asks of them. I dont think we'll see a team anytime soon that resembles some of early 2000s miami or USC teams where the TE was as much of a threat in the passing gaMe as the WRs. And that's ok, because like @Jaxbuck said, give me a Hill, Moore (heck even a Curtis Samuel, Parris Campbell, Henry Ruggs, etc) and we'll still drop points on anyone

Indeed a good blocking and receiving tight end (where you’d pick to throw to him over the burners at receiver) is uncommon. They can still be critical like when Iowa Noah Fant and tj Hockenson’d us to death. The main function for a tight end in Ohio states offense is to get nasty at the line of scrimmage more than half of the snaps for the running game and can’t have Ryan Hamby hands. Hudson Wolfe doesn’t strike me as anyone we can’t comparatively get an upgrade over next year. Getting a dual threat tight end or two will be a focal point for the 22’ class in any scenario anyway. Gotta have the heart and selflessness to help fend off linebackers and defensive ends on the constant.

No Travis Kelsey? By far the bigget mismatch there is in regards to TE's in the NFL. Hell of a blocker in the run game too. Too big and physical for a CB and too quick and agile for a LB. He is damn near leading the NFL in receiving yards this year.
