Cordova (TN) St. Benedict at Auburndale

Defensive Tackle
6-4
300 lbs
Class of 2022

The Buckeyes offered a scholarship to Cordova (Tenn.) St. Benedict at Auburndale defensive tackle Walter Nolen very early in the process. And in November Nolen told Bucknuts Ohio State was one of the schools he was definitely interested in. It’s also been known the Buckeyes are one of the teams recruiting Nolen the hardest. Nolen is being recruited by Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson as well as defensive staffer Lorenzo Jackson who assists Johnson coaching defensive linemen.

So today when Nolen announced his Top 10 it was no surprise the Buckeyes were included on his list. On his Twitter account Nolen announced a Top 10 of Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, Oregon and USC.

Nolen is a 5-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 2 overall 2022 prospect, the No. 1 defensive tackle and the No. 1 prospect in Tennessee.

Walter, “I just want to say I appreciate all the schools that recruited me. Especially Larry Johnson at Ohio State who is the best DL coach in America and no one does it better developing D linemen who then make millions in the NFL. That said, today I am committing to the University of Alabama”

Trolling, well I’m sure Dasan is trying but the kid tweeted roll tide earlier too.

Thought 2022 was poised to possibly be the best class ever? Know we have some great guys committed and there’s a loooong way to go but all I’ve heard lately is how OSU has no chance on this guy or that guy.
You've really only heard that with Nolen, Jackson and Johnson. Nolen isn't leaving the south, Jackson goes to a USC feeder school- and he committed to... USC, Johnson is a scUM legacy- he'll probably end up at... scUM. Osu is in the hunt for pretty much every other top player(unless he's already committed to the good guys 8D)

"Fit" has always been key. Whether a football team, or in a business application, the talent level is expected, but the ability to 'blend in' with the existing folk already there can be paramount. Had an interview with Apple back in my salad days, and was point blank told, you can do the job, but you're not the right fit......always thought it was my well-tailored (not really) suit versus the tie-dyed t-shirt the personnel person wore. Coulda been my attitude (from staid corporate America). These kids have achieved certain levels of expertise, and how they come across to their coaches might tell the tale. Fit is harder to judge than ability to break tackles, make tackles, etc. Glad I don't have to make those decisions. One would think that the IMG coaches would encourage the talent to bend to the team, especially since IMG can pick and choose, rather than be a school district with the kid in its boundaries. Whatever one says, it's apparent from what recruits say about tOSU, that there is a certain culture - one of family - they like and wish to join. Go Bucks! Hopefully one of you out there can say this much better than I can express.
