Moving soon and twc is our only option for internet.

1) are there local resellers of twc service that might have better promos? If do, do you know who I should call ?

2) what has been your experience with post promotion period pricing ? I am looking at 1 room HD dvr, no movie channels, plus rr Turbo (for the upload speeds)

I can probably get discounts and credits to lower my directv bill to about 65 over 2 yrs, but with a little better promotion, like free hd or turbo, it would be easier getting both from one place.

I know all about the general ratings and feedback of twc, but I am forced to be their subscriber for at least one of their services, internet.

He just left my door, I told him no thanks. IMO the prices just don't compare.

Do you have alternatives for internet?

It seems like the areas out here only have one provider. Here it is insight/centurylink, at my new home it is TWC/rr.

ESPN3 is also a huge service that I cannot access with just a roadrunner subscription. They block it if you do not buy ESPN on tv .

My Time Warner rates just went up because the promo period was over. To be honest, I didn't think I was getting that great a deal a year ago (Standard cable + internet for $102, DVR included). I asked the guy what the standard price would be once the promo was over, he said it varies. "Great..." I'm thinking. He said it would most likely be $10-15 more, and it ended up being over $30.

I'm looking to drop cable TV and keep paying for the internet. Honestly the DVR will be the only thing I miss, but if theres really something we want to watch we can always record it. I've got no problems going to satelite, it's going to be a lot cheaper, and I don't order PPV wrestling anymore so I won't be pissed if signal cuts out for a time. I would get rid of the internet too, but DSL sucks and unfortunately no one else does cable in my area either.

FWIW, we used to have TW-RR as the cable-internet package long ago.

When we moved TW was available. Instead we opted for ADSL and a bundled Sat Dish install.

It is an option, though you have to (typically) maintain some bare minimum phone service for the ADSL hookup. Certainly, if nothing else, it is your best leverage hypothetical deal vs. hypothetical deal.

Note: I'd make sure your option for ISP under the ADSL deal (it does not have to be the phone company's crud) is listed on the ESPN3 carriage agreements.

i use dsl and dishnetwork, without knowing where you are moving it is hard to say. I know my folks use centurylink for phone and dsl, and direct tv (outside of Marysville about 4~5 mi). Either way I will not deal with TW if there is an alternative.

I have Time Warner in Cincy, and that is pretty close to what I subscribe to. I have digital service with one HD DVR and no movie channels. I have RoadRunner Standard (10 Mbps / 1 Mbps advertised). I do subscribe to the additional digital sports tier for about an additonal $5/mo. - that gets me channels like MLB Network, Fox Soccer Channel, Versus and Fox Sports Atlantic/Central/Pacific. My monthly bill is about $126. I don't remember what what the promotional pricing was like for a package like that - we've been subscribers for several years now.

From what I've seen, TW is advertising 1 Mbps upstream for both Standard and Turbo these days. Of course, YMMV - especially with upstream...

I haven't really considered switching lately, it does what I need it to do. I didn't have the option until a couple years ago anyway. The last time I checked on satellite though, it would cost me pretty much the same as cable once I added in all of the sports channels I wanted to have.

When I moved I looked at Direct TV vs Verizon/Comcast and the prices were pretty much the same. What package do you get that would make satellite cheaper?

Moving to pataskala, oh.

I do not see a good alternative to rr in terms of DSL. That is good to know about advertised upstreams, I thought rr standard was only .5 up. If I can verify that I will skip turbo.

The offer is 99 for hdtv, 1 room hd dvr, digital cable without movies, and rr standard (7 down, I thought .5 up) for two years with a contract.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

DirecTV is currently $85, but likely drops to about 65 for 12 months if I threaten to cancel.

TimeWarner is offering 7 mbps internet + Digital Cable (1 HD DVR) for $99 fixed for 2 years.

Centurylink is my DSL alternative, and they are $52/mo for 1.5 mbps ($59 for 10). They bundle with DirecTV to save a whopping $5 off.

I'm not seeing a good alternative to the evil TWC conglomerate...

I probably don't stick with them after the promotional rates expire in 2 years, but for now, it looks like a much cheaper option and the only one to get ESPN3. (CenturyLink is also excluded)

Dish Network is overring Free HD channels for life, and a promotional period of $29.99 for standard channels, which covers everything I really need as long as I can still get NBC/ABC/etc off the airwaves. The standard cost of that package is $39.99 I think, but in any case the promotional cost is still 1/3 of what I'm paying now for cable since my promotional period with TWC is out. Way too much money considering I watch all of 5 or 6 channels that aren't already broadcast for free.

I thought you were moving to Pataskala last year?

Weren't you asking about cable internet out that way a time back?

My first suggestion is to not to move  Or at least move to a better place so you can get the service you want :wink2:

Now, I was facing a similar problem with the TWC/CenturyLink choices. It really sucked. But there was a hidden alternative.

Century Link will never quote higher than a 1.5, it will be up to the tech installing your phone line to let you know what true speeds could be available.

I got REALLY lucky that I was buying a new home and the development had fiber optics. My LOW speed is 15.0 and at times can push closer to 30.0
