recent draddy award winners:

rudy niswanger (4.00 in pre-med from lsu)
craig krenzel (3.75 in molecular genetics from osu)
alex mack (3.61 in legal studies from cal)
brian leonard (?.?? in business from rutgers)
dallas griffin (3.89 in business and finance from texas)
michael munoz (3.67 in political science from tennessee)

tebow is a good guy and all, but... by no means did he deserve the draddy award. his major was complete fluff, and his gpa was on the lower end of other draddy winners who had far more difficult majors. his below-average wonderlic score further undermines the worthiness of his draddy award.

wait.....that was Krenzel's major? somebody should have said something before now.

Damn announcers are always overlooking the accomplishments of Buckeyes. They never say anything about the fact that the leading scorer in the history of Ohio HS hoops is John Diebler.

properly weighted, a 3.75 in molecular genetics is a 4.00. a 3.66 in family, youth, and community services? at best a 3.00.
Yes, but Tebow's community service - properly weighed - surpasses the academic disparity.

Tebow has spent nearly every summer of his life preaching the word of God around the country and participating in mission trips abroad. In 2009 alone, he has dedicated nearly 700 hours to community service efforts and appearances, including hospital and orphanage visits, and was named the 2008 Wuerffel Trophy recipient for his exemplary outreach.
Krenzel is a frequent visitor to the James Cancer Hospital and Children's Hospital. A speaker at numerous engagements, he also volunteers at a local food pantry, charity fundraisers and during Right To Read Week.
Of course I'm just kidding around. They are both fine young men we are all proud of having represent our alma maters. And, of course, Tim's SEC East Championship > Krenzel's BCSNC :p

sorry, but some community service does not make up for majoring in what amounts to home ec. (compared to molecular genetics, political science, pre-med, etc.). the draddy is referred to as the academic heisman for a reason. there isn't a chance in hell that a quarterback with a below-average wonderlic score would achieve anything close to a 3.66 in a major that isn't geared to football players.

family, youth, and community services? puhhhhhhhlease. i wouldn't be surprised if that major is loaded with football players.

Tebow: Hello there, little Pasquel. Sorry to hear that your family is dead, but we're here with some awesome medical supplies that Jesus gave us to help ward off that horrible infection that's threatening your wellbeing.

Pasquel: (Weak and feable mumblings)

Tebow: Oh, you've never heard of the Lord Jesus Christ and how he died for your sins and gave us all this awesome medicine? Well let me tell you about him, little, needy, uneducated, helpless, Pasquel. Let me tell you all about him . . . .

You forgot his closing line. :shake:

I can't help how the Draddy is referred to by the press, but the actual qualifications for the award are clear, and nowhere does it state that the award is given to the guy with the highest GPA in the toughest academic discipline. Sorry. And if you think that intelligence and GPA always track or are dependent upon one another, you were sleeping that day.

The daily pressure and expectations on Tim were enormous, "The Anointed One" he was called. It amazes me that he was able to handle it all - the constant media frenzy, which was sickening. That level of celebrity is what turns people into arrogant assholes, or forces then the other direction, worrying and stressing about how they are perceived once the inevitable backlash happens, which is usually so mean and widespread that it drives celebrities to drugs and booze and self destructive behavior.

He handled all of that, the Heisman pressure, two MNC games, a stressful repeat season attempt, being #1 for most of it. He got in more hours of community service than I'd have thought possible, and still was the first guy to lift weights in the morning in the off-season.

His 3.66 - given that environment - was just fine with me. And, I guess, the Committee. .

Tim Tebow proved at the NFL Combine two weekends ago that he is a physical freak for a quarterback: He tied a Combine record with a vertical leap of 38.5 inches, ran a 4.7 in the 40 and dominated all participants in the cone and shuttle drills.

But when it comes to thinking on his feet in a pressurized environment, Tebow is a little bit behind the pack.
