Beck has engineered some pretty dynamic offenses. Now he won't have play calling power at OSU, but I'm sure hell be consulted. QB stats at Nebraska need to be taken with a grain of salt, because he didn't have the best talent, but still had them highly ranked, and he did the same at KU. Think about this, how many people even knew KU had a football team until a few years ago when Mangino was with Warriner and Beck? They almost made me watch a KU football game... Almost. That says a lot in itself

Not really against the hire but my first reaction wasn't positive.

Mental images of Nebraska QBs throwing the ball, lack of any kind of in game adjustments and inconsistent offense come rushing to mind.

Mainly picturing that last Nebraska QB throwing. It was brutal.

In Urban I trust, just answering your question.

Under Bo and Tim's tenure, Nebraska QBs consistently regressed as the season went on, and showed little development in passing or decision-making from year to year. We'll see soon enough if that was simply a talent issue with Nebraska quarterbacks or whether there were other underlying problems

As someone who watched quite a bit of Big XII football, 2007 Kansas was arguably as much or more of a product of their defense. KU went from from 94th to 12th and total defense and 84th to 4th in scoring defense. The following year when the defense returned back to 89th in total defense and 82nd in scoring defense they went 8-5.

that's fine but their offense kept humming the next year too.

Todd Reesing was a baller, and I believe that that KU team innovated the whole no huddle look to the sideline for the play thing.

What does their defense have to do with what the offense is running? And like @jwinslow said in 2007 and 2008, KU had one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation. The defense is kind of irrelevant. And Todd Reesing is not on the level of the 3(if not 4) QBs on OSU's roster.

Clearly, Urban is giving EW someone he wants to work with and has had success with before. Keeping Warriner for a couple/few more years is critical. This gets that done but the guy can't be a schmuck or Urban wouldn't bring him on. This is a smart, solid choice, under the circumstances. Sometimes that's the appropriate thing to do.

to this point, wasn't Warinner the QB's coach at the time? Maybe between Meyer & Warinner they give Beck better tutelage in the art of coaching a QB?

I have confidence because, ultimately, Urban is still going to be the captain.

I give Tom Herman credit for his role in coaching the QBs we have now, but the one constant is Meyer. Outside of some garbage Florida QBs that no one could fix and lack of offensive direction at the end of his tenure there, Urban has shown the magic touch with QBs. I'm sure he can take some of the drills and procedures they've used over the past 3 years with Herman, which were no doubt mixed with what Meyer wanted.

It's not a coincidence that Meyer keeps his backups engaged in practice and games for the mental reps and then they are prepared to step up when needed. Some coaches seem to shine when they have the right guy on top. Will that be the case here? Guess we'll wait and see.
