I do not choose to discuss it
It really reminds me of Bollman. There is no rhyme or reason to the plays the offense runs.
They're not designed to exploit a weakness in the defense.
They're not designed to build off of other plays (jet sweep motion with a dive, hit the dive until the defense commits to it then hit the jet sweep).
The coaches might as well just be pulling plays out of a hat, which is exactly what I said when Bollman was here.
With four weeks to prepare, the best the offensive coaching brain trust could come up with was throwing it in the flats? Am I missing something the did that was innovative outside of that (which doesn't even count)?
It looked like the exact same offense that struggled against decent defenses all season. Nothing new. No wrinkles.
Like, maybe roll Barrett out of the pocket? Hell, you can even have a counter fake motion off of it to hit if the defense over commits to the rollouts.
Now, JT has arm issues, the OL has issues, and the WRs have issues as well, but isn't part of being a coach recognizing those issues and compensating for them with a solid scheme?
It was just a perfect storm of bad tonight. When JT made a good throw the WR would drop it. When the WR ran a good route JT would make a bad throw. Sprinkle in the OL missing assignments all over the place and it was really, really bad.
As I said, although there were many issues, it all starts with the utter failure of the coaches to come up with a cohesive plan of attack and identity for the offense.
Like, on 4th and 1 maybe don't leave multiple defenders unblocked for read option. Perhaps not the best time for that- maybe everyone just block the guy in front of them and run behind the big guys?
The offensive staff needs to be blown up and that starts with Beck, and probably Warriner too unless Warriner is okay moving back to second fiddle behind a new hire.
