Tiger Woods (Offical Thread)

I think that is the bigger point. If anything, put it on Davis Love III. Tiger had to carry that ridiculous amount of weight that was Steve Stricker all week. Stricker was TERRIBLE. I mean, just AWFUL. HORRENDOUS.

[Mark May], Tiger almost pulled out 1 win by himself while Stricker pulled a John L. Smith all week. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Captains stick with losing formulas.

To put the best player in the United States in a match that could be irrelevant, was just awful strategy. If you want the #1 player in the US to close, you put him in the second or third to last match. DLIII really [Mark May] the bed unfortunately.

I mean the first four US golfers [Mark May] the bed too, but DLIII really set todays lineup as badly as he possibly could. Maybe NBC asked him to run out a line-up that would be good for Sunday television....he just [Mark May] the bed as a captain.

This goes on Davis. All of it. He picked his fucking buddies for captain's picks, and I'm sorry, but he could have picked Joe Oglivie and D.A. Points and it would have been better than Fyursuck and Stricknyne. Awful. Then he stubbornly kept the same pairing together, the ONLY ONE that wasn't working, for 3 matches. The order on the last day, eh, I actually didn't have a problem with the way he did that, though I might have sent out Tiger first and put dogmeat like Stricker and Furyk in the very middle, not at the end. But still, I feel about him like the Euro fans did about Faldo at the end of that Cup, which is basically that the captain sucked moose dick.

If Stricker makes that putt on 17 or Furyk makes that putt on 18, Tiger has the chance to be the goat or the hero. We never got to that point.

He did suck in the foursomes on Friday morning though. Beyond that, he played fairly well - especially on the back 9.

I would have sent Tiger out first...then you see if he is still a tone-setter or not. He is great at playing from ahead, so sending him out first would have made sense.

The biggest issue with DLIII's line-up, that everyone seems to be glossing over, is the fact that he knew Europe would come out top heavy trying to win early matches. And to counteract that, he put a majority of his strongest players towards the back-end.

And love or hate Tiger, the guy is the top ranked American and has won multiple times on tour this year. The guy deserved to have an opportunity to be relevant. You can't put him last, with even the slightest possibility his match may not matter.

Tiger likes playing early as well....I heard he asked to play late on Sunday and close, but at worst you send him second or third to last out. It was just awful strategy. I'm not letting my best player, play in a potentially non-relevant match.

Davis Love played what is the equivalent to a prevent defense and it bit him in the ass.

I can't criticize Love III for sending Tiger out last, since we were up 4 points to start the day. In all likelyhood if the last match is not relivant it is because the US has it all sewed up. Who would have guessed that Europe would play "lights out" and the majority of the remining 11 USA players would play like shit. If the the last match is relivant (i.e. you need the last match to win), Tiger is the guy I would want in it. He is a multiple tour winner this year, might be USA's best player, and least likey to choke (i.e. has had hundreds of "pressure matches" before).

All fair, but then you need Tiger second to last. You can't have Tiger in a match that "could" be irrelevant. If the US is going to tank, then Tiger needs to be in a position to make a impact.

I can see the "why" behind where you put Tiger, what I can't reconcile is how you put him dead-last where his match has the possibility of not being used. It's the equivalent to saving your best running back for overtime.
