Great guess.
1969 was the last time (and only time) tOSU averaged 40 points
1973 was the last time the defense allowed fewer than 100 points for a season.

For Dubs - in 1996, tOSU scored 455 in 12 games. Not quite 40.

Penn St. in '86 was more recent than '82.
Auburn was #1 AP in 1957, when tOSU was #1 UPI.
