Thoughts on living in/near one's 'home town'

Born and raised in Columbus, went to tOSU, and then settled into a career here after graduation. Never had any reason to leave. I've traveled around the country quite a bit and seen a lot of places. But I don't think I'll move from here unless someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Could never move back to my hometown (Reno) where I shot a man just to watch him die.

Seriously, it's too small. The same reason that I could never live in Columbus again. I doubt I'll ever live anywhere but Chicago or New York from here on out. I wouldn't mind buying a second home in Lake Tahoe though.

Born at tOSU, lived here all my life with the exception of boarding school for a year in Maine. My entire family is here and family is extremely important to me. I love the fact my kids have a great relationship with their grandparents, aunts/uncle, cousins, etc... I guess all in all, Columbus is my comfort zone, I don't do well with change. Things here are predictable and familar.

Great post. Agree 100%. Not to mention the fact that I am at home living here with fellow Buckeye crazy people like myself. I would still like to see the world and more of the U.S. as I get older but this is where my heart is. Columbus ohio is part of me. I could never leave forever. This is my woodstock.

lots of nods to columbus, that being said i think ohio's economy is finally paying a toll on the city. that being said a very nice city that i think with the right people could be up for another big boom, circa when a lot of you went to college

Ive been surprised to find that Columbus has been a destination city for alot of young professionals. Columbus has also really done a good job of developing good downtown night life, and the downtown is starting to really fill in with new housing (esp to those of us that lived there prior to... 2000?). I really like what Columbus is/is becoming. If the city gets through this next couple years of rough nationwide economy, it will be the "other" city in the midwest after Chicago, IMO.

It's cool to see a lot of people who have moved out west. I will be heading out to utah within a month. I think at some point in life you have to get away from your childhood memories, and sometimes it's hard to do that living close to where you were raised.

I'm fortunate enough to be with a very fabulous woman who has traveled a lot more then me...There's so much interesting stuff in the world that limiting yourself to an area really limits your personality and growth overall. Even if it's not what you wanted at least you have some experience knowing what you don't want..

Born and raised in Northwest Ohio. Left to go to film school in Chicago for a couple years but came back because I wanted that degree from The Ohio State University. I'll be graduating this June and plan on moving out to Cali. Proud of my roots, but it's too damn cold and not a lot of work for filmmakers here.

Moved away from the Akron area when I was 18 and always said I would never move back. After grad school I lived in MI for over a decade. It never felt like home. My wife and I looked at several locations before deciding to move back to my home and closer to her family, but not too close (her decision). We are closer to family and friends. Heck, my wife is now good friends with my first girlfriend from high school.

It has been a good move for us, but this is what we wanted. I do not want to move every 3-5 years like my old job required. I wanted the ability to have my children not wonder what school they are going to next year as daddy may switch jobs and move.

Akron and NE OH are not glamorous, cutting edge, nor have a nice climate. But, we like it and know this is the right place to raise our boys.
