You're not going to call him D'Artagnan for more than a week. It will be "Dumas" before you know it.

I think ORD is on point here. I've had 3 dogs in my life and they ended up with the day to day names: Nanny, Chewy and Maxie.

Benoit shortens to Benny pretty naturally.
Plus it’s a name of of the all-time greatest wrestlers!

We named a number of ours based on things they did
Our German Shepherd pup was in his glory chasing butterflies.. so daughter named him Cassius Clay for dancing like a butterfly
And we called him Cash.. beautiful animal that fearless was a perfect adjective

@AKAK is right... half our pups are called some nickname or variation of formal name
Benjamin was 'ben jammin'; Maximillian was Max because he was the smallest puppy we ever had; Marshall Dillon was Dill

We once had a dog named Pup because when we got him he was a pup and we never named him, referred to him as "the pup" his whole 15 years of life.
