Thee Ohio State University News

So google says the acceptance rate at UIUC is 65.6 and the acceptance rate at Miami is 65.5 sooooooooo I realize I did go to a public school but if I think real hard about it I think 65.6 > 65.5. Soooooooo virtually the same?

As an Illinois resident, I can tell you that there is a significant sell selection bias that you're seeing there. I know honors students who don't bother applying to UofIL because the likelihood of acceptance in some of their programs is ridiculously low. If you want to get an English degree... yeah, you'll get in. You've got a better chance of getting in some of the engineering programs as a foreigner than you do as a tax paying resident of this state.

Also, UofI is under massive political pressure to limit out of state enrollment and has the smallest oos enrollment in the big ten. If they wanted to go all-in on out of state recruitment like Fredo does they would raise those numbers greatly. If Ohio State simply dropped their freshman class numbers back to the low 6000 range that they were a decade ago, we'd probably triple the gap with Fredo and be damned close to tsun.

Interesting that they are under such pressure. A few of the kids I know who considered it are pretty much of the opinion that even with in-state tuition as high as it is, they may as well leave the state for school.

Why the love for Fredo, man? I never bag on Kent State.

BTW, SAT gap is much more pronounced in UI's favor. 1340-1500 to 1200 to 1380. (Ohio State for comparison is 27-32 and 1340-1450)

No love for Miami. It’s the internet, I like to argue. Also, I did do my undergrad at Kent but did my grad at Boston. So I’m probably desensitized to run of the mill douchbagism.

Well, enough about our meddlesome, back-stabby little in-state brother. US News grad school rankings came out and here's where we stand:

Business 31st Overall/11th Among Publics/5th in Big Ten (Chicago included)

Law 34th/13th (tied with IU and UNC) /6th (tied with IU)

Medicine 30th/12th /5th (Case is 24th; the only instance of us not being tops in Ohio; juggalos are 38th by the way confirming my contention that they are an AAU quality medical school attached to a MAC university)

Engineering 27th/ 14th /5th (no engineering at Chicago)

So, for the professional schools, nobody is really terrible. The only B1G school that outranks us in all the above is tsun. OTOH, Wiscy, Illinois, Purdue (engineering obviously), Minny, IU, Iowa and Maryland all have at least one top 20 program. With the resources that are lavished on the professional schools at Ohio State, I do feel that at least half of them should be able to crack the top 20 overall/top 10 public.

Arts & Sciences

To be completed later.

That's some stiff conference competition. Top15 public all over... and around 5th in conf.
Chemistry and Psych 16 public, 9 conf :yow1:
I like that you included Chicago even if it frequently drops us another spot. Some day i pray next commish will slide into JH's DMs during a lacrosse match.
