Hell, Emory and Ga Tech manage to make it work in the same city. The only Cleveland institution that Ohio State seems to have a conflict with is The Cleveland Clinic, and I've never bothered to look into why.

UC is our only real competition among publics, and we've always managed to get along with them pretty well until Ono's nonsense (it wasn't just the multiple flagships talk), and their new President has seemed to smooth over things with us since Ono hit the road. The problems with other public universities has never been on us. It's their jealousy and attempts to damage Ohio State in the vain hope that they could fill the vacuum that's been the problem.

Well, there was the Damon Flint matter. But I think you are just speaking to academics.
