Thee Ohio State University News

Ohio's big enough to have a premier public and a premier private university coincide Plus, they're not in the same city, which helps. It's not that uncommon. Hell, Emory and Ga Tech manage to make it work in the same city. The only Cleveland institution that Ohio State seems to have a conflict with is The Cleveland Clinic, and I've never bothered to look into why.

I didn't realize that Case was private. My mistake.
Thanks

UC is our only real competition among publics, and we've always managed to get along with them pretty well until Ono's nonsense (it wasn't just the multiple flagships talk), and their new President has seemed to smooth over things with us since Ono hit the road. The problems with other public universities has never been on us. It's their jealousy and attempts to damage Ohio State in the vain hope that they could fill the vacuum that's been the problem.

Well, there was the Damon Flint matter. But I think you are just speaking to academics.

I thought it was OK. It was like a "State Of The University" speech. A lot of boilerplate feel good stuff but kind of light on actual policy proposals. I'd like to have seen him address the huge freshman class. It didn't come at the expense of selectivity and quality, but it's still causing other problems like overcrowded classes, dining halls and dorms. I'll be interested in these 2030 and 2035 plans lay out. It's been a long time since I knew someone on the BoT, so I'm pretty much in the dark these days.

I just wish I could say I feel more positive about him. I find his speeches to be overly political attempts to align with his audience and tell them that they are in the center of the universe. I don't hear any future-focused insights that make me say, "gosh, I didn't know that". Sadly, I just find him boring and don't make it to the end.

I wouldn't say that I feel negative about him. It's just that I don't have that rock solid confidence that this is the person who should be leading Ohio State. I had that with Drake and Johnson. Carter is still a work in progress for me.
