So you're saying just for playoff games or bowl games? What about those programs that aren't as successful, do those parents never get the same opportunity to watch their sons play? What about senior day? Essentially you're saying the success of a program that year dictates the benefits the parents get while the other parents get none; just doesn't seem very fair or realistic.

That's exactly what I'm saying. This is special. Part of the reason it was never done before was because of the amount of extra games involved.

If we have a class that pulls a Mike Hart and never beats Michigan, they don't get any gold pants. Want to cry about it? Too fucking bad....that's how it goes.

Thus why I said biological/adopted if you're that concerned about it.
If it happens it's something permitted to A5 schools. I don't think any of them would go broke, nor be required. This is a perk schools have the option of providing for the sports they decide to do it for.
BTW there's already a blueprint for this: official visits. I don't know if they limit guardians to two, or if that's just the form. Either way it's not that big of a deal.

And somehow your same argument doesn't work to say, "And if you don't have the money to travel to see the games in person? Too fucking bad....that's how it goes. Watch on TV"?

Considering that there are already schools that aren't in the range of profitability that the few big name schools are, it seems this could be an advantage to those schools.

Do you want to feed every family for anyone that works at McDonald's? I mean....it's those hard working teens that make McDonald's what it is while the fat honchos sit in their corporate offices reaping the rewards of those hard working individuals....the least we can do is feed them everyday!

I don't see how your gold pants reference is relevant in the least - I'm the one saying we don't need to give anything out, you're the one saying 'and you get one! and you get one! AND YOU GET ONE!!!'

I think the bottom line is this:

Do the families need to have their expenses paid for bowl games? No.

On the other hand, given the money being generated, outside of selfishness, greed and possibly being an asshole, why the hell not?

I mean, being generous and nice to people is still good... right?

No, I don't want to feed every family that works for McDonalds, but thanks for asking. That seems like it really matters in this discussion.

The gold pants are relevant because you made it seem like it would be the worst thing in the world if only the playoff bound teams had family expenses paid for. I'm sorry....but I don't think somebody's parents should get flown out to the Idaho Potato Bowl, and I don't think there's anything wrong with telling them that. Yes, this is a perk for the 4 teams who are playing for it all.....kind of like gold pants are a perk for the kids who WIN The Game.

The premise is the same; you're saying parents should get free travel because it is their sons that create this billion dollar industry.

Having your child get a free education and an opportunity to play college ball is perk enough for me and seeing that in person is a privilege, but to each their own.

FFS, it isn't that tough to find a reason to get behind it. If Ohio State wants to do this and most other schools supposedly can't afford it, that's a recruiting advantage. On a board where it takes less than five minutes for somebody to crassly ask about the impact on recruiting for every tiny piece of news, I'm astonished that I'm the first one to bring this up.
