The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

as opposed to all the believable wake up from a coma to a zombie apocalypse plot lines out there.

Well hell, don't stop at zombie apocalypse plot lines. Pretty much any futuristic, apoalyptic, science fiction, etc. plot line is, by its very nature, "out there." But a well-made entry in any of those genres is able to include a plot that flows naturally and doesn't leave me shaking my head.

You're right. Because it is ridiculous to assume that southerners might be Christians and they might turn to their belief system during a time of extreme crisis and trauma. Crazy [Mark May].

I certainly didn't mean to insult anyone's religious beliefs or anything like that. I just thought those scenes were incredibly contrived, forced, and totally unnatural, regardless of whether the characters were Southern Christians (but in fact, the sheriff expressly said he was not religous during his little diatribe). I often feel the same about the walkie-talkie scenes. The acting isn't great (although I do like Norman Reedus in his role) and the lines are forced and not particularly believable.

I guess I misunderstood you then. I thought you were saying that it was forced to have any of the characters be Christian or turn to its belief system. Not that the acting or the particular scene was forced. Mea Culpa.

Personally, other than the opening sequence with the zombie herd walking through the cars and the chase scene through the woods, I thought the episode was rather bland until the ending when the boy was shot.

Can anyone explain why if you're bitten, you become a zombie, but if you're splattered with zombie blood and/or entrails, nothing happens?

Blood compound has to be absorbed through either direct blood on blood or the virus spreads through the saliva of those infected.

I'm not zombie expert. I had to consult a friend on this. :wink2:

Eh, I imagine it's somewhat patterned after AIDS and other viruses (like rabies), in that yes, it's certainly mathematically possible that you can get it from being splashed with contaminated fluid, but it is improbable unless it is done in such a way that the fluid directly enters your body in some way, especially compared to, say, being penetrated in some way (like a bite) and having direct exchange of bodily fluids into your bloodstream. At least that's always how I looked at it.

Besides, it's zombies dude, is there really a rational explanation here?

That was my thought, too, but no one would cover themselves on purpose in AIDS-infected blood and I would freak the hell out if I was splattered with it. I got MRSA a couple of years ago through a minor crack from dried skin on my hand. I've got to think that living through a zombie apocalypse with no showers, etc. would leave you way more susceptible to the virus or whatever it is through skin contact.

Not that I'm taking this too seriously. It does take place in my city, though; can't be too careful.

I like how zombie bodies never seem to need or use calories, and so no matter how long it is since they've been killed (or eaten last), they never weaken or lose weight due to starvation or physical excursion/effort expended.

And Zombi-ism seems to cure asthma....which is cool.

So, what you're saying is that you shouldn't let a zombie assfcuk you without a condom.

I think there's an entry for the Rolltide meldown board from the H&G in there somewhere: "We aren't just losing, we are getting bareback zombie-fucked with no pullout"
