The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

Overall, I liked where they went with it. The whole grass isn't always greener storyline with Negan was a little over done, but on the whole I think they picked up and moved it forward pretty well.
I both loved and hated it. I see great potential in the Whisperers if it is done right. I also see great potential in Negin to finally not be a complete waste, but to end up being one of the more complex characters in TV. The tension between Alexandria and Hilltop is also intriguing, but it’s starting to get frustrating that we don’t know shit about what happened or why. What I really fucking hate are the sad and timelessly sorry tropes they keep going back to, most of which have already been done before. A minor one was watching 30 minutes of Negin walking...how many episodes have they done this in? It’s like WCW circa 1999, half of Nitro was watching guys walking backstage on the way to the ring. But my major problems are:

1. Rosita is now the town whore, and nothing more. When will show writers realize that women can be hot and fuck and yet still be useful? 2 seasons ago she was fixing vehicles and defusing bombs. Now it’s “who fucked Rosita this week?”. Plus, and this I hate more than anything, they KNOW they’ve fucked her character sideways, because they are now going for the cheapest possible heat to try and make people feel bad when she eats a spike: making her pregnant. I can’t fully describe how lazy and cynical that is.

2. We are back to the clueless pasty fucktard kid everyone wants to die 5 minutes after they are introduced. Remember blonde hairdresser lady Rick was tubing for about 5 minutes? Yeah both of her kids qualified, but especially the whiny one that got them all killed. Now it’s Carols adopted kid that’s going to try and slide into Alphas daughter, only to realize ZOMG SHE REALLY ISNT NICE, but not before he gets about a zillion people killed first. Not only has this happened on about a thousand shows, but it’s happened on this show more than once, and they are apparently mistaking change the channel heat with actual interest from the audience. I already wanted Darryl to cut his balls off and feed them to the dogs chasing Negin. Every further appearance is going to draw “not this shit again” and nothing more.

So one of those episodes nothing happened but setting up for the next few. Which is fine...all in the payoff though.

I'm still trying to figure out what kind of accent Samantha Morton is trying to pull off. It's like a Texas/Florida thing (can't really explain it) and they were in Baltimore.

I was preparing to see Alpha cut off her husband's face like Leatherface/Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Didn't happen though (at least not yet).

Yeah I’m not really sure what the hell that is, but it isn’t working. Plus she looks like she got stuffed in a chimney for a year with her eyes and lips sewn shut.

I’m also trying to figure out exactly what the hell the point is if the new 5, besides have a hot looking tattooed chick. That entire sequence was somewhat puzzling.

The backstory, at least, will work better than it did with the Termites, because they got offed in like 3 episodes and there was no reason to care.

Lydia will likely make or break the next season and a half...if she is Enid V2, or even Carl V2, she will fuck the whole thing up. She has to be something more, something unique.

Anyone else think the foreshadowing of a Carol/Alpha showdown is just far too obvious? I mean they’ll cross paths I’m sure, but they’ve already set it up like a Vader/Luke lightsaber duel and we’re only 2 episodes in.

Sooo...what did everyone think? I really liked the acting in this episode. However, it was too...Quentin Tarantino for me on the Kingdom side. And the contrast between the very serious business at the Hilltop and this 70s funk think didn’t work for me. I do, however, praise the writing of how they are in the calm before the storm, looking for little things, the details of how to make this festival work...unaware of the storm that’s brewing. I just thought it detracted some from what was supposed to be a real gut-wrenching moment for the main character.

BTW one moment that is interesting to me was 2 episodes ago in a flashback, when Alpha and Lydia were playing checkers and Alpha said “checkmate” and Lydia said “mom were not playing chess”. Not sure what it means, but I found it interesting.
