The Sporting News B10 Preview...

A loss to Texas or Iowa at home could really shake the confidence of this team! How would they then react? Would Smith start blaming the problems on the coaches or players? Would the home crowd lose patience with this team? And start the booing we heard at the spring game? What if this "NC contender", lost both games? This isn't the 2002 team of vets. Who will leade these guys? Tress knows how to coach a team up, but remember the game last year at Iowa? That team layed down and quit! Something we thought would never happen with a Tressel coached team. I hope for the best from this team, but they have a lot to prove to me. To Texas. To Iowa. To the national media in general. To all Ohio State fans!

Um Taosman, you're digging yourself a hole here. First you suggested a weaker purdue team that loses everyone deserves to be ranked above a good Iowa team that loses very little.

If they lost to Texas or Iowa, it would hurt their chances at a NC but they definitely could still win the Big 10 or a BCS bowl game. When has Smith blamed others for the problems? Since he has not, that is an incredibly unnecessary comment.

As for claiming that this team isn't full of veterans like 2002, that's flat out false. If you remember correctly, most of the 2002 team came back in 2003 to try and repeat, thereby proving they weren't all seniors like you are suggesting. Most of our two deep are experienced players quite comparable with the 'veterans' of 2002.

Iowa was the last in a series of games where we had guys starting that had no business doing so. We got beat up front by an incredible DL and a stout group of LBs, so its not that shocking that it was a long day for our team. When your offense barely sees the field the D becomes exhausted.

Apparently they have all of these things to prove to you. I'm not going to assume that all of these things are going to go wrong because a team of youngsters struggled early on after losing most of the 2003 team to graduation/NFL.

They have much to prove yes. But they did not suck up the last half of the season to warrant much of this attitude.

I'm calling this team out! Hear and now! C'mon Buckeyes! Show me, and more importantly, the entire country, what and who you are! Are you the team that quit at Iowa last year? Or the team that smashed Michigan and Okie State? Texas doesn't respect you! Iowa has no reason to respect you! The nation thinks you're a team of thugs and criminals! You're all taking handouts according to other teams fans! Shut them all up! Punch Texas in the mouth early! Send Iowa packing with their worst loss in years! They think you're soft! And no matter what happens in games, Don"t Ever Quit!

I like our chances much better now, since you've called the team out. :!

I seriously doubt Texas doesn't respect us... they may not fear us but I'm sure they respect us. It would be like us not respecting Vince Young, that would just be stupid. We might feel we can contain him, but we'd be doing 4 AM practices if Tressel caught wind of them not respecting Texas.

An example of a school no one respects would be Boise State or West Virginia.

They have many questions to prove. I already said that.

However, you've made a bunch of absurd jabs at OSU's team without any good reason, or followup explanation?

I'm still quite bugged by the Smith insult. If there's been someone who has been nothing but positive in the face of adversity, it has been him.

Smith was wining to the media about his playing time! Short memory? Smith hadn't done squat at that point. Maybe he should have been starting. But, why wine about it to the media? I love Smith, but I can't ignore his faults!

And playing Texas and Iowa early will make or break this team! A huge, huge gamble! Lose to Texas , at home, in a night game. OK, maybe it won't kill your NC chances. Lose to Texas and Iowa, your season goes down the shitter! How would you motivate your team? Would they have the 2002 teams heart to keep fighting? Will they have the heart to win the close games? They have the talent. Will they have the heart? It will come down to how much heart. this team has!

I could swear many of these kids lost 3 straight games and endured the worst stretch of tOSU football in about 5 years....yet they still had the guts to destroy scUM and dominate a bowl game.

You are bordering on trolling now...if you only want to bash the team, go to another board. Take that as a warning, a threat, or a promise. All 3 are correct.

Let's recap a few things:
1) You are the fan you were referring to earlier who thinks the season is only worthwhile if we go to pasadena. All of us hope for the best, but if we win ten games it's still a good year.
2) Smith sat on the bench all season. Zwick sucked it up against Marshall in the second half. Then NC State our only offensive TD was thanks to getting the ball 5 yards away. Then Northwestern we lost, tho it wasn't Zwick's fault. Then Wisconsin we can't even score an offensive TD. Then Iowa we look like a mid-major out there with no offensive TDs with Zwick in.

You tell me that Zwick was getting the job done. Please. (btw I think it wasn't all Zwick's fault, but it was clear that with that porous OL and non existent running game that Zwick was not the right QB)

And complaining that you want to get in there and get a chance to compete is A LOT different than blaming others when you lose a game. Every player would have a hard time swallowing their tongue in Smith's shoes, whereas only guys with no character would do what you suggested and point fingers.

Sorry! But I can not respond to questions about individual players or even my thoughts on the team as I have been threatened with banishment!

As much as I am excited about this team, I must remain skeptical!

Not banishment...but from the warning system:

Bashing You personally attacked a player, coach, recruit, or person of interest to the program or community. In order to receive this warning, it had to have gone above and beyond constructive criticism. Understand that players, recruits and their families read their threads on this site, and consider them when posting.
You know exactly what you are doing...I've given my thoughts and the stance of the site, its up to you how this plays out.
