The Paul Finebaum Show (Official Thread)

Granite? No. But there are contracts for these things, TV obligations already scheduled for other events, and the world isn't going to wait for Ohio State just because the B1G panicked.

Are Clemson and Bama supposed to sit around for a few weeks waiting to see if a B1G team qualifies? Besides, you're not just talking about one game. The semifinals have to happen first.

Don't get your hopes up.

Exactly. Sorry but I feel the same way. Why should all the other schools have to wait because the B1G shot itself in the foot? Honestly, would you be okay with waiting for Clemson to finish their season for 4 weeks. I wouldn't. But I hate them to the core so that might be a bad example.

Plus any championship game that excludes the best team in the USA will lose a lot of its luster.
ESPN doesn't care about luster. They care about showcasing the SEC and Clemson. A post-season mix that includes Ohio State is a potential disaster for them just waiting to happen, and they will do whatever it takes to ensure their precious SEC & Clemson are taken care of. If you need further evidence of this, please reference the heaping helpings of shit that the refs dished out to us in last year's semifinal vs. Dabo's Doucheboys.

Sorry, but I don't see ESPN simply writing off the potential for Ohio State and its massive fan base to participate in its party in Miami just to satisfy a desire by Climpson and Bama to "play right away." Plus any championship game that excludes the best team in the USA will lose a lot of its luster.

If the game can be played in mid-February and accommodate the B1G schedule, I think it will be.

I think you're dreaming. Clemson vs Alabama would give ESPN orgasms. They don't own the Big Ten Network. They own the ACC and SEC Networks.

Apparently you'd be surprised to learn how many people outside of the state of Ohio don't necessarily see the Buckeyes as the best team in the country.

The Big 10 voted not to play this fall. 11-3. The 11 don’t care about tOSU.

But they do care about the money.....

Below are the per-school payouts for each Power Five conference, again according to Berkowitz:
  • Big Ten — $55.6 million (except Maryland, Rutgers)
  • SEC — $45.3 million (except for Ole Miss because of its bowl ban)
  • Big 12 — $38.2-$42 million
  • Pac-12 — $32.2 million
  • ACC — $27.6-$34 million
