Ryan Day even winning over skeptics like Paul Finebaum
Ryan Day had his share of skeptics entering his first season as Ohio State head coach last year. But after a 13-1 season, an appearance in the College Football Playoff and a few plays short of a national title appearance, Day is beginning to win some of those same skeptics over quickly. Even ESPN’s Paul Finebaum is taking notice.

“I think he’s already one of the top coaches in the country,” Finebaum said to 850 ESPN Cleveland. “He’s just a cool guy that really understands today’s modern player.”

Finebaum has had plenty to say about the Buckeyes in the past, but he seems to be a fan of Day, who is rising preseason coach rankings despite only coaching one season for Ohio State. Finebaum wasn’t only praising Day, though. He’s high on the Buckeyes this season.

“Assuming we have a college football season, I expect the Buckeyes to be playing for the national championship,” Finebaum said. “I’m pretty high on Ryan Day and what he has going on up there.”

Ryan Day must be doing everything right, because even Paul Finebaum is dishing out praise to the young head coach.

Does anyone believe that the national championship game date is engraved in granite if the B1G begins play in November?

Granite? No. But there are contracts for these things, TV obligations already scheduled for other events, and the world isn't going to wait for Ohio State just because the B1G panicked.

Are Clemson and Bama supposed to sit around for a few weeks waiting to see if a B1G team qualifies? Besides, you're not just talking about one game. The semifinals have to happen first.

Don't get your hopes up.

Sorry, but I don't see ESPN simply writing off the potential for Ohio State and its massive fan base to participate in its party in Miami just to satisfy a desire by Climpson and Bama to "play right away." Plus any championship game that excludes the best team in the USA will lose a lot of its luster.

If the game can be played in mid-February and accommodate the B1G schedule, I think it will be.

I am more optimistic than most about some tOSU football being played in the next few months, but if the SEC and ACC have held their CCGs before December 20th, I don’t see any way in hell they’ll hold off the CFB ‘Playoff’ this year to accommodate the B1G.
