The pain of being unrivaled

Notre Dame is a rival but it's a cold rivalry. They rarely play each other but there's a lot of hatred between the fanbases and, when they do play, it's HUGE.

Every team in the conference is a rival. Michigan is OSU's biggest rival, of course. PSU is #2. Over the course of your lifetime, outside of the Michigan game, you'll suffer more from losing to them than anyone else, you'll enjoy beating them more than anyone else. You will fear and hate them (the two go hand-in-hand) more than anyone else. That's what defines a rivalry.

If Michigan doesn't get their shit together before too long we'll risk PSU becoming our #1 rival.
Um yeah, no.

That last part is just non sense.
A few generations of students passing through OSU without knowing the pain of losing to Michigan but seeing potential championship seasons spoiled by losses to PSU and that's a real risk. If PSU came up with a national championship season then that would totally change the dynamic.

Just because we grew up with a strong Michigan rivalry and will always hate them (and fear them whether we care to admit it or not) doesn't mean succeeding generations will. Rivalries aren't decided in five or ten years, they're decided over decades. Over lifetimes. Michigan used to beat PSU practically every year, MSU too. They've beaten OSU twice this century. If you're a freshman at OSU this year, these next four years are going to go a long way in setting in your mind who you think OSU's biggest rival is.

There is no #1 rival, #2 rival, #3 rival...you have one rival, period. Ped State desperately wants someone in the B1G to be their "rival", but it ain't us nor will it ever be. We have one rival. One.

No team will ever come close to replacing scUM as our rival...

Hating them doesn't equate to being a rival.

There is only true rival to Ohio State in the Big Ten and that's M*ch*gan.

I hate teams like Florida, Texas, Wisconsin and Sparty (along with Ped State and their mongoloid fans) but they aren't rivals. Rivals have stature, Ped State needs to be eliminated from the B1G.
No stature? They're the only other blue blood in the B1G East outside of OSU and Michigan. They're #9 in all time winning percentage. No, that's not the same stature as Michigan, Notre Dame, and OSU who are the top three respectively. But to deny that they're a program of stature is just silly.

Yes, the Sandusky scandal and Paterno being bigger than the program and still getting away with the all time wins record when it only meant that a few more innocent children had to get raped and Penn State had to lose a bunch of games they wouldn't have otherwise is a black mark on their program that we will remind them about forever. It's disgusting. But they're not leaving. And from a purely business standpoint it's better for the B1G that they don't. Just like OSU is producing new generations of alumni who never feared Michigan nor felt the pain of a loss in The Game, PSU is starting to produce generations of alumni who never knew Joe. Let's live in the real world.

They've won the B1G East exactly one time. Blue Blood?

They could win the fucker for the next 100 years, they still won't come close to eclipsing M*ch*gan as our rival. Ohio State has ONE rival and only ONE. Not Two, not someone who wants to be relevant for a 3 or 4 year stretch, just ONE. It doesn't matter how bad or good scUM is, they are the ONLY rival for Ohio State. It was like that before the Pedsters came into the league, it'll be like that forever.

edit to add: Yes, Stature. Ohio State and M*ch*gan actively compete with each other across the spectrum, both athletically and academically.

There is no such competition between Ped State and Ohio State. Ped State wants their alumni to think so, but if you ask literally ANY Ohio State grad, you'll only get one answer.

They could be eliminated from the face of the Earth, plus their mongoloid fans, and no one would care.

Michigan State is Michigan's #2 rival. That disproves your argument.

PSU is getting our attention and hate because they're a threat these days, much like Wisconsin and Sparty have from time time received our attention and hate. But, minus the ped stuff and urine bottles and other things that they do to earn extra hate, they're essentially interchangeable with any other team that's a current on-field threat. Michigan has won one of its last fourteen games against Ohio State, in a year in which the Buckeyes had an interim coach and a losing season, and everyone here is still telling you that they're THE rival. What more do you need to know?

Disagree with the bolded. I would care. I've told my wife on a number of occasions that a meteor of the right size, striking the right part of Pennsyltucky, would, on balance, make the world an objectively better place.

How many times has Urban won the B1G East?

JoePa is gone. The sanctions have passed. Like I said, PSU sacrificed wins so that the fewer wins they did get all went on Joe's record. That's in the past. PSU right now is much more the PSU that they could've been than the PSU that they were.

How could a Ped State ped if a Ped State could Ped State?

This is irrelevant, much like the argument that Ped State is a rival of Ohio State. They aren't and they never will be.
