I was just pointing out that from 1870-1878 tOSU was actually called the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College--and I have an OSU-hating acquaintance who never lets me forget it!

What is "The" for? I always assumed it was to distinguish it as Ohio's state university instead of Ohio University but is it just part of the name? Thanks.
Unless i'm mistaken "the" is part of the school's name.
