BASEBALL SIGNS SIX FOR 2020 SEASON

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball program has signed six new recruits for the 2020 season, head coach Greg Beals announced Wednesday. All six signees are Ohioans; the 2019 recruiting class brings in two outfielders, two infielders and two pitchers.
“We are excited to announce this years’ recruiting class of future Buckeyes,” Beals said. “This class more than anything has the makeup we are looking for in our student-athletes – athletic, versatile, great competitors and most importantly strong academically. Once again we have attracted a group of young men with a strong history of success on and off the field. I foresee this group all making an immediate impact in our program.”
The 2019 signing class includes: Caden Kaiser (OF/1B, Lewis Center, Ohio), Nate Karaffa (INF, Toronto, Ohio), Tyler Kean (RHP, Springboro, Ohio), Mitchell Okuley (OF, Powell, Ohio), Yianni Skeriotis (RHP, Massillon, Ohio) and Sam Wilson (INF, Dublin, Ohio).

Caden Kaiser – OF/1B – L/L – 6-2, 190
Lewis Center, Ohio – Olentangy H.S.
Kaiser is the son of Melissa and Chad Kaiser and plays high school baseball for coach Ryan Lucas at Olentangy … plays summer ball for Bo Jackson Elite … honorable mention All-State selection (2018) … two-time team captain (2017-18) … two-time first team All-OCC and All-District (2017-18) … four-year starter … ranked fifth outfielder in Ohio by Prep Baseball Report … batted .343 as a freshman to be named a second team All-OCC honoree (2016) … hit .442 in 29 games as a sophomore (2017) and followed that up with a .400 average as a junior (2018) … also a three-year lettermen in football as a wide receiver… team captain as a junior and named first team All-OCC (2017) and second team All-District (2018) … third team All-State selection as a junior (2017) … would like to pursue a degree in sports management.

Beals on Kaiser: “Caden is a smooth swinging left-handed hitter with the size, speed and versatility to play both in the outfield and at first base.”
Nate Karaffa – INF – R/R – 6-1, 180
Toronto, Ohio – Toronto H.S.
Karaffa is the son of Jennifer and Matt Karaffa and plays high school baseball for coach Brian Perkins at Toronto … plays summer ball for Bo Jackson Elite … two-time first team All-State selection as sophomore and junior (2017-18) … two-time first team All-Conference selection (2017-18) … batted .485 with one home run, three triples, 16 doubles and drove in 41 … would like to pursue a degree in athletic training.
“Growing up in Ohio it has always been a dream to play for The Ohio State University. The amount of resources this university provides both academically and athletically is second to none.”
Beals on Karaffa: “Nate is a very athletic and sure-handed infielder with the skill to play anywhere on the infield.”
Tyler Kean – RHP – R/R – 6-3, 190
Springboro, Ohio – Springboro H.S.
Kean is the son of Kristina and Ryan Kean and plays high school baseball for coach Mark Pelfrey … plays summer ball for coach Greg Beemer with the Dayton Classics and the Midland Redskins … 8-1 with a 2.43 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched on the mound … also hit .356 at the plate with nine doubles, three triples, one homer and 27 RBI … PBR All-Ohio selection … first team All-GWOC … Rawlings Perfect Game Preseason Underclass All-American … first team All-Miami Valley Newspaper … GWOC Scholar-Athlete … would like to pursue a degree in business.

Beals on Kean: “Tyler is a loose armed righty with a fastball touching the low 90s and good feel for both a breaking ball and changeup.”
Mitchell Okuley – OF – L/R – 6-2, 185
Powell, Ohio – Olentangy Liberty H.S.
Okuley is the son of Amy and Todd Okuley and plays high school baseball for coach Ty Brenning … plays summer ball for Bo Jackson Elite … honorable mention All-State selection … first team All-OCC and All-District honoree … batted .362 with one homer, four triples, eight doubles, 30 runs scored, 24 RBI and .543 slugging … would like to pursue a degree in engineering.
“I chose Ohio State because it is close to home and I love everything about the school and the coaching staff.”
Beals on Okuley: “Mitchell has the speed and arm strength to be a great outfielder with serious bat potential.”
Yianni Skeriotis – RHP – R/R – 6-4, 200
North Canton, Ohio – Massillon Jackson H.S.
Skeriotis is the son of Karen and John Skeriotis and plays high school baseball for coaches Bill Gamble and Dan Rodriguez … plays summer ball for coach Adrian Abrahamowicz and the Lake Erie Warhawks … 2018 First Team All-State … 2018 Baseball Player of the Year Stark County … 2018 Second Team High School All-American … two-time first team All-Federal League and All-Start County … first team Northeast All-District … 9-0 in 11 starts a junior with a 0.88 ERA with 93 strikeouts in 63.2 innings pitched … holds the school record for strikeouts in a game (16), strikeouts in a season (96) and career wins (18) … went 9-0 with a 1.75 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 52 innings of work … pitched the 2017 Division I State Championship Game for Jackson … would like to pursue a degree in pre-medicine.
“I chose Ohio State because I have always been a Buckeye fan growing up here in Ohio. I really like the coaching staff with Coach Beals and Coach Stafford. I felt very comfortable with them during the recruiting process. I am very excited as to where the program is headed and I hope to be able to contribute to the Ohio State baseball success.”
Beals on Skeriotis: “Yianni is a diligent preparer. A classic power-type righty with great command of both is fastball and curveball.”
Sam Wilson – INF – R/R – 6-3, 195
Dublin, Ohio – Wabash Valley CC/Dublin Jerome H.S.
Wilson is the son of Jodi and Jeff Wilson and played high school baseball for coach Chris Huesman at Dublin Jerome … played at Wabash Valley CC for coach Rob Fournier last spring that finished 45-11 and finished the year ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA poll … two-time first team All-District (2016-17) and three-time first team All-OCC (2015-17) … two-time All-Metro team (2016-17) … hit .420 as senior with 10 doubles and went 5-2 on the mound … played summer ball for coach Kelly Ratcliff on Ohio Elite in 2017 … would like to pursue a degree in business management.
“I chose Ohio State because it was a dream come true to come back home and put on a Buckeye uniform and go after a Big Ten championship. Ohio State also provides me with a great opportunity for me to get a degree form one of the top business schools in the country.”
Beals on Wilson: “Sam possesses an impact bat and has the experience and ability to contribute in many different ways.”
