The Ohio State Baseball (Official Thread)

Yeah, I'm starting a thread. Sue me

Buckeyes win game 2, 9-7, have won 4 of their last 6.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Ohio State bounced back from their 12-4 loss on Thursday with a standout offensive showing of their own. The Buckeyes used a six-run eighth inning to jump ahead of the Seahawks and came away with a 9-4 victory to tie the series at one (JC comment: this is a typo, the final score was 9-7)

Buckeye starter Isaiah Coupet was dominant in his start, pitching 5.1 innings and only allowing one earned run in the fifth on two singles by UNC Wilmington. In the sixth, Coupet was knocked out of the game after a one-out error followed by a single and was replaced by Ethan Hammerberg. Hammerberg allowed two more unearned runs on a fielder’s choice and a double.

Ohio State got on the board with a solo home run in the top of the second by third baseman Colton Bauer, and would not add another run until a single by Bauer scored Drew Reckart in the top of the sixth. The Buckeyes trailed 4-2 heading into the seventh.

UNCW wins game 3, 2-0

https://ohiostatebuckeyes.com/ohio-state-blanked-2-0-against-unc-wilmington/

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Gusts of wind limited the bats in the third game of what otherwise was an offensive-heavy series between Ohio State and UNC Wilmington; Saturday’s start time was moved up two hours to 2:00 p.m. due to expected inclimate weather. The Buckeyes were only able to muster three hits and were ultimately shut out in a 2-0 loss to the Seahawks.

Ohio State started sophomore Nate Haberthier on the mound, and the right-hander impressed despite any help from the lineup. Haberthier pitched out of a bases loaded jam with no outs and gave up the first run of the game on an RBI double play. He was able to pitch out of the first with no further damage, but allowed another run in the second inning on a double and a single by UNCW on back-to-back at-bats. This is the last run that was scored in the game; Haberthier remained in the game for six shutout innings, pitching a complete game despite taking the loss. He allowed no walks and struck out four batters.

The Buckeye lineup was able to create consistent solid contact, but their drives into the outfield were neutralized by the windstream above the field. Marcus Ernst, Trey Lipsey, and Colton Bauer each singled on the day, with Lipsey and Drew Reckart adding walks.

The fourth and final game of the series will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Buckeyes now sit at 7-10 on the season.

In what some are calling "The Upset of the Century" Ohio State's scrappy underdog baseball team defeated heavily favored Ohio baseball powerhouse Wright State 7-5.

Baseball World Stunned

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind three hits from Kade Kern and a solid night on the mound from six Buckeye pitchers, Ohio State took down in-state foe Wright State 7-5 on Tuesday evening at Bill Davis Stadium.

The Buckeyes improve to 8-11 on the year and will open Big Ten play at Purdue this weekend.

Kern was 3-for-4 on the night with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. It was his first three-hit game of the season and just his second multi-hit game of the year.

Marcus Ernst continued his tremendous season with two more hits, including an RBI double. He is hitting .451 on the year.

Zach Dezenzo and Mitchell Okuley each had two hits on the night.
