The Official Offense Discussion (Merged)

Hey, Zach Dumass, is this schedule appreciably better than the one OSU has faced the last three weeks?

at Washington (1-8)
Washinton St. (3-6)
Stanford (4-4)

How about this one:

Texas Tech (8-1)
Oklahoma St. (3- 5)
Baylor (4-5)

That's USC and Texas respectively.

Proud of Buckeye's Offense

Sure, the Buckeye's offense now has some things that we can be proud of:

1. 40+ points in three straight games for the first time since Eddie George.
2. Number 1 ranked passing efficiency QB in the conference
3. A near-guaranteed 1,000 rusher for the first time since......never mind.
4. A true freshman tackle who is looking better and better.
5. A set of wide-outs who could all play in the Pro Bowl some day.

However, what I've noticed ever since the Iowa game is a VERY VERY classy team. Sure, Tressel teams have always kept the taunting and celebrations under control, but this offensive team in particular has been extremely cool throughout this season. I've noticed DB's and linebackers talking smack much more this year than in previous years, and Ginn/Holmes/Smith/Pittman all ignore it or take it in stride. The last three games (starting with the Indiana game) seem to be some of the worst I can ever remember.

Anyone else notice the Illinois safety talking trash to Frost after he was tackled for a 17 yard gain? What is the point of that? However, Frost just flipped the ball to the ref, and went back to the huddle.

Any time a ball is incomplete to Ginn or Holmes, the opposing DB's ALWAYS seem to have something to get in the Buckeye's receivers ear about. As if he was the reason the ball was overthrown! But, instead of talking back, the Buckeyes just line up and school the DB on the next play. This week, the DB got in Holmes face after the fade pattern was overthrown in the first quarter...I wonder if it was the same DB who broke his ankles on Holmes' move in the second quarter. But, the great part with this team is, Holmes just gave the ball to the ref, celebrated briefly, and ran back the the sideline.

I love it. They act like scoring 40 points and amassing 500 yards happens every week at Ohio State.

well... our D does talk some trash

but they back it up .

lol... looking at the title, I guess the thread was about the offense, so my comment doesn't mean much...

oh well, Malcom Jenkins says he's the biggest trash talker on the team btw.

Like you said, 40 points DOES happen every week.. at least the last 3 games. Granted, 2 of those games are Illinois and Indiana. But beating them counts as many in the W column as beating Iowa or Minnesota.

And I've notice, too, that opposing defenses seem to be talking trash all the time, and that the Bucks don't do anything about it. Is it that the opposing coaches hype up the Buckeyes offense, and when a pass into the endzone is incomplete, it's a minor victory for the defense, and they need to celebrate and let the receiver know he won one? Why can't the opposing players play with some class? Act like you've been on the field before.

I also noticed against Indiana (or was it Minnesota?) that whenever Ginn was tackled, the defenders seemed to try to twist his ankle or get some cheap shots in. That's even worse than trash-talking. (I couldn't stand it when Robert Reynolds did it in 2003.)

That whole trash-talking thing, in general, is pretty funny. I didn't see Illinois talking to Frost on his catch and run, but I know what you mean. It's also funny when teams talk trash when they're losing 35-7, and they just got a first down. Like I said before, players need to behave as if they've been on the field before and they've played football before.

The only plays Cooper called were the ones guys like Walt Harris relayed from the booth.

Coop was a manager...the best thing he did was let his coordinators run their shows

Which is what Tressel should do, let a real O coordinator call the plays instad of him and a O-line coach calling them. I'm not bashing Tressel, but most big time programs have a offensive coordinator that does just that, calls the Offensive plays and thats it.
