The Official Offense Discussion (Merged)

We are ONE BAD SNAP on an EXTRA POINT from being tied with Penn State for most points scored in Big 10 conference games.

We have scored more touchdowns than ANYONE ELSE in Big 10 conference games.

When you consider that we somnambulated through the Penn State game, that is amazing.

In another thread, I showed how the Big 10 scored more points in OOC games than the SEC or the ACC by almost 6 points per game; and this in spite of the fact that we played a demonstrably tougher OOC schedule.

The point here, is that in a conference that plays offense better than anybody else, the Buckeyes are more than holding their own.

To be fair, they haven't had to face the best defense in the conference, unless you count the Spring Game.

Man, only 600+ yards of offense - should have been 700, easy.... :roll1:

Seriously, I imagine that a lot of people have plenty of things to "unsay" about the Buckeyes' offense. Let's be frank - the Buckeyes, even without Holmes (Mangold will be the bigger loss, IMO), will have a NC-caliber offense in 2006, and the defense and special teams should be enough to keep them in the hunt. Time for another ring for JT & Co.?

gonzo is a little less flashy, but not a huge dropoff from Holmes... I'm excited to see what Hartline/Dukes can add to the passing game.

Mangold will be a tough replacement, but the offense should be pretty potent with Smith at the helm, and some help for Pittman at last (Wells, plus more of a chance that Haw/MWells are ready to be major contributors)

Assuming Youboty and Whitner stay.

Hawk, Carp, and Schelgel - Will be tough losses but with Laurnatis, Freeman, Kerr or DAndrea, we are starting with some studs.
Marcus Green and Kudla - I think we have enough talented DT and with L. Wilson we will be fine.
Salley - I think O'Neal will be ready for primetime.
Holmes - Big loss but with Ginn, Gonzo, Hall, Dukes, Robiskie (who everyone forgets but the coaches), Hartline, Smalls, etc we should be fine
Hamby - Frost and Nicol...upgrade??
Sims - I think we will see Boone at LT and Datish shift down and our line will not suffer
Mangold - Big, big loss. He is the captain of the line a great player with years of experience. Nothing agaisnt Cordle but this will initially be a step down till he gets his feet wet.
Huston - Bigger loss then most think.
