The Moment you Realized Time was Catching You... (Merged)

Flexbone, Wing-T, a ton of variations, whatever you want to call it....

Its actually a pretty popular HS offense all over the country...its a way to make the playing field level if you don't have superior athletes.

I'm familiar with it Zanesville HS, used to run it when Whit Parks was the coach. I think he coaches at Minster now.

The first Mr. Football came out of that offense, the dubious Buster Howe.

I have some gray hairs also but at least it's better than losing it!

I have a ton of gray hair, but I have lots of hair so it is no big deal to me. I tell people who comment on my gray hair that it is better to be gray than be gone. I don't usually tell that to people who are losing their hair though.

I realized the getting older playing with my boys. I am not the fastest runner, but I used to have a good first step. Not anymore. Of course, the bulging disc in my back last year was also a good sign.

When did you realize time was catching up?

Physically, I realized I was getting on in years when I hurt my neck sneezing a few years ago.

But the real indicator of my 'gettin on in years' was this past summer. We've got some apartments across the street from our house and our bedroom is upstairs, with windows facing the street. Anyway, we had gotten fed up with the late night partying of the damn college kids across the street and one night (actually early AM at around 4) I had reached the end of my rope and called the cops. I knew then that my youth had officially faded away. It was quite satisfying the see the cop car arrive and give those kids a stern talkin' to, though. :) They haven't been a problem since.

Outside of the fact that I now take it for granted that I'll have a certain amount of aches and pains, I think for me the passage of time has been marked by the aging of my parents. I've always thought of my parents as being young and healthy, but somewhere in the past year, my dad has transformed from the guy who moves my heavy furniture into the guy who falls asleep in his chair every time he sits down for more than five minutes. Facing the very real possibility of losing him within the next year has, more than anything else I've experienced, made me feel like a grown up for the first time.

I'm still chasing twenty year olds around a rugby pitch and hanging in there pretty well, but this summer in a tournament match against the U of Alabama I thought I had a perfect angle on this skinny kid. Oh, I thought I was going to blow him up. It was going to be an epic hit. Then, WHIFF, nothing but air and the scorch mark on my cheek as he flew by. I still don't know exactly what happened. The fucking guy just ran right past me. That had never happened before. I had the right angle, everything was set and the next thing I know the fucking kid is scoring ON ME! It was like being a Big Ten defensive back and being helpless against Teddy.

Fucking kids.
