The Memorial (Jack's Tourney)

Steve19, remember reading that no less an authority than Dan Jenkins likened Columbus plethora of great golf courses slightly behind that of Monterey, CA. When you look at the architects in Columbus, Donald Ross, Alistair McKinzie, Jack Nicklaus, and even Jack Kidwell, (am sure I've slighted other great architects), with courses in such a small area, it makes sense. Maybe Palm Springs, an area or two in Florida, but nowhere else that I've seen can compare.

The 2025 Memorial Tournament presented by Workday Honoree is Barbara Nicklaus.

Ryan Day has enjoyed this offseason as the head coach of the Ohio State football program. Coming off a national championship, his legacy is much different than it was just six months ago. Fans wanted him fired after the loss to TTUN. Now, he's on a Mount Rushmore of Ohio State coaches.

Day has done a good job of preparing his team for the 2025 season, in which he will have to defend the national championship. He feels good about what the team has in terms of talent to do this, but only time will tell. On Wednesday, he played golf with someone who knows a bit about that.

Ahead of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, Day participated in the Pro-Am. He was paired with two Alabama legends. One was pro golfer Justin Thomas, who has two major championships. The other is Nick Saban, who is considered the greatest coach of all time.

Day can learn a thing or two walking the fairways with Saban about the pressures of playing after a national championship. Saban won six titles in his illustrious coaching career, so he knows exactly what Day is doing. If anyone can give him advice on how to handle the pressure, it's him.

This will be one of the few times this Spring in which Day has a day to relax. He is a pretty good golfer, so he should enjoy his time in Dublin. Once the round is done, he goes back to worrying about recruiting and how many big-time guys the Buckeyes can land.

Just sayin': I couldn't find the Pro-Am scores.....

Still have my admission badge to the inaugural Memorial. But regarding Script's posting above, think that is a very cool way of doing the amateur thing, having two different pros to play with. Not as familiar with the local amateur talent, but do/are the Buckeye golf team members represented in those amateur pairings? Looking forward to walking that course once more.
