The Memorial (Jack's Tourney)

The golfers get paid the same Tiger or no Tiger. I get a few more tickets may change hands tomorrow, but you have to buy a four day pass to the Memorial last time I checked, or else you are buying a secondary market ticket.

Lots of great young players that are driving the tour now. Spieth, Thomas, DJ, Day, McIlroy, Fowler, and many more. They may enjoy Tiger being out there, but I hardly think they give a shit compared to the media.

If they look at the big picture (Tiger brings higher ratings, more fans, which translates to more $$$ for the PGA and tournaments, etc.); however, it is "dog eat dog" PGA world and my guess is that most golfers just care about themselves. They are probably jealous that Tiger gets disproportionately much more TV time which takes TV time away from them. This translates to a reduced value for their endorcement contracts.

Totally disagree. Despite being 4 strokes back the biggest gallery tomorrow will be following Woods. And that would be true if any of the names you mention were in front of him.

Sure, the prize money for tomorrow wont change because of Tiger making a run, but that prize money will be roughly double what it would have been had there been no Tiger. The next tournament he plays in will sell more tickets. More people will tune in tomorrow to watch him. CBS didn't spend the first 10 minutes of today's telecast exclusively on Tiger because they think he is a swell guy. He is what people want to see.

Tiger Woods strategically used galleries to make noise and unsettle his competitors in a game where such behavior is not allowed. When his life fell apart, more than a dozen players went to the PGA to ensure that he would not be allowed to return and act the same way. He is not winning today because of injuries, but his inability to run around greens pumping his fists and performing as he once did is also a factor. In my mind, Tiger Woods played for TSUN.

What I dislike most about Tiger Woods is the way he treated Jack Nicklaus like rubbish - not taking or returning Jack's calls and, when he did, having an assistant do it for him. That changed when Woods life fell apart and nobody was calling him.

So, it is a remarkable testimony to Jack Nicklaus that Jack generously shares his time with Tiger to encourage him and arranges for him to spend some time with Urban Meyer to do the same. That Tiger does better this week is due to Jack, not Tiger, and I hope that Tiger appreciates the wonderful generosity of THE truly greatest golfer of all time.

Arnie started the popularity of the game on TV and Jack built it to new heights. Trevino, Watson, Faldo, Norman and many others continued the popularity. Mickelson has had a great long run in the game and can still play at a high level. Tiger exploded on the scene and increased the popularity of the game for young folks and minorities, and at the same time opened up new areas for sponsors. McIlroy, Spieth, Thomas, and others have done great things as young players and one or more of these guys could easily go on a major run. These guys bring a whole new level of competition and excitement to the game.

At the end of the day if CBS wants to spend 10 minutes at the beginning of the show and people want to follow a player who hasn't been relevant in the game for years, that is their prerogative. I turned most of it off because the coverage was so Tiger focused and Nantz and Faldo were so busy slobbering all over themselves at the expense of players who were leading the tournament and in contention. Even when DeChambeau won they had to get some Tiger verbiage in to the broadcast. I get it America loves a hero comeback story and I'm sure Tiger will win some tournaments and even a major at some point. Just like in every sport players come and go It isn't going to be so easy for Tiger going forward with the depth of talent on the Tour.

I don't think Tiger Woods is going to win anything of consequence. One one hand, none of the elite players is afraid of Tiger on "moving day" anymore. On the other, once your back is gone, it's gone. It is a matter of time until he is in too much pain to play again.

Was fortunate to attend the very first Memorial tournament. Still have my clubhouse pass (somewhere). Went to TGIF afterwards, and was playing liars poker (dollar bills), and asked the guy behind me to pick one. Turned out to be Hale Irwin. Good times. Beautiful course, but haven't had the privilege of playing it.

A new No. 1?

Jon Rahm Can Become the No. 1 Ranked Golfer in the World if This Happens Sunday at The Memorial

The easiest way Rahm can overtake the No. 1 spot is with a win and McIlroy finishing worse than a tie for second. McIlroy currently sits tied for 12th and 10 shots back of the lead, so he would need a special round to catch second place.

Rahm can also become world No. 1 if he comes in solo second and McIlroy falls outside the top 30. With a four-shot lead entering Sunday, the No. 1 ranking is fully in reach for the young superstar.

Rahm currently has a 4 shot lead (at -12) after 2 holes.

Asking those in the area, maybe members? Are members still resigning from Murfield because it's too darn hard? A decade or so ago, had a friend tell me that many members were chasing memberships elsewhere because the course was designed for championship play mainly. Note, when Jack designs a course for we mortals, he give us a 'bail out' area, or a high risk-high reward way to play the hole. On the hole visuals, don't really see that. I've only played seven of Jack's courses, so certainly not an expert. Jack still draws the top professionals for the Memorial, though.
