The Masters Tournament 2010

Did anyone see Tigers post round interview on CBS?

Why ask if he is going to use a different measuring stick to grade his performance after his layoff? You know how Tiger is, he's there to win plain and simple. Does golf expect Tiger to now be a emotionless robot? The interviewer asked where the passion was after Tiger came out and played like crap to start the round. So he's supposed to be all smiles and showing excitement when things are going badly. I agree with Tiger, I too think people are making to big of a deal out of how he shows emotion/frustrations.

I thought the majority of the post-round interviews were trash today.

Just some dumb questions and too much analysis by the interviewers during the interview.

Just...awkward.

Great win for Phil, the old 'choker' label doesn't fit too well after a bogey-free final round and three 67s on the lengthened course.

His stretch on the back nine on Saturday, and that ridiculous shot through the trees on 13 Sunday will be remembered for a long time - even though he missed the eagle putt, that shot was the key to him winning.

For those who were impressed with Tiger's play after a few months away from competitive golf, I suggest reading up on the story of Ben Hogan.

And CBS should get a hefty fine for having live mikes that picked up Tiger's cussing on network TV.

Congrats Lefty!!!! After his back 9 on Saturday, I had no doubt in my mind he would win. The momentum on that back 9 sprung him past the field. I'm just glad Tiger choked, and choked HARD. at the birdie to bogie.

tiger didn't choke. he just didn't have a great round. instead, he had a good round. his second 9 was better than his first, and he was 3 under for the last 4 holes. choking implies that he succumbed to the pressure. i saw none of that. yes, tiger did have that ugly 3-putt from close range, but that was due to a lack of focus rather than to the pressure. also, when i think of a player choking, i think of a player giving up a sizable lead or failing badly when almost in the lead. tiger was either 4 or 5 strokes behind the lead when he 3-putted.

to be sure, i am no tiger fanboy. i'm glad that phil won and i prefer his victory over a tiger victory. that being stated, i did not see tiger choke. he just didn't play well enough to win. heck, i'm impressed that he played as well as he did.

I think it was in the betting thread that someone noted if Tiger won that it would make some sort of mockery of the game or something like that (not a direct quote). If you check out the story of Ben Hogan you will find that he played very little and most of it was in major tournaments of the day and what he hand picked, so the precedent is out there. Don't be surprised if Tiger chooses that path at least for this year.

I disagree.

I contrast his reaction to the outcome of this tournament with Fred Couples. Couples was also in contention, and his reaction to coming up short was disappointment, but he also mentioned that he was also at least having fun and seemed to acknowledge the privilege of playing the game - on its greatest stage no less.

Having taken up golf in the last year, I've come to view Tiger Woods differently. While I have an even greater appreciation of his greatness, his outlook on the game makes it hard for me to root for him any more. I mean, I suck at golf bigtime, but I find at least a little something enjoyable every time I get a chance to play. Tiger gives off the impression to me at least that if he were only the second or third best player in the world he derive no enjoyment from golf and wouldn't want to bother with the game. I've never got that impression from any other professional golfer I've watched, either. Say what you want about how that might separate him from the rest of the field or how it contributes to his greatness. I don't care about that. It's just not congruent with the way I now view the game.

When everyone else blinked at once and he made that sick shot out of the trees, this Masters was over. That "hang dog" fake grin is gone and so is the choking. Seeing him come off the 18th to his family was a poster for promoting golf.

A great win that is well-deserved.
