The Masters Tournament 2010

Considering it's the first and only time I've ever done such a thing, I get the feeling that it's more about the fact that I hurt your feelings than it is a real cease and desist statement. So, I'm sorry...you're right, I had no business calling you out like that, but the perceived tone you took with me was hurtful in it's own right. Hopefully you can clear that one up for me.

...really? Judging by this I can only assume that you really do feel that Tiger's performance was unremarkable.

So, taking off a year and a half after announcing your retirement from the sport entirely and showing up on a couple of TV shows with no semblance of paparazzi terrorization is akin to being one of the most posterized figures in the sport getting caught up in a scandal that made airtime on just about every television channel forcedly removing you from the pro circuit amidst constant media invasion and re-appearing at one of if not THE most prestigious sporting events in all of sport?

We can make this solely about sport all we want, but when it comes to the mental toughness involved in both scenarios, you can't even begin to compare the two. Even if you HATED Tiger Woods, you'd have to look at both scenarios and realize that there's a little bit more to one story than there is the other.

Good grief. Please don't say that because I objected to something that you posted that 'my feelings were hurt'. This isn't junior high. And if my response was 'hurtful' to you, get some thicker skin and get over it. Most people on here don't want to hear about feelings, if they did, they'd be watching Oprah instead of posting.

It was the first time you used those words, but it wasn't the first time you've misinterpreted my posts, which is a reason I didn't try to be overly kind.

But you are correct that I wasn't overly impressed by Tiger's sporting performance. And I understand that you are apparently more impressed than I was, so we have differing opinions on that and can just agree to disagree.

Per the bolded part of your quote above, please don't tell me what I can and can't compare, and what I have to do. You can have your opinion and talk about it, but don't tell me what I have to do or believe. If that's not what you meant, you need to be more careful with your wording when responding directly to me. Because wording like that tends to get me riled up.

As far as the "cease and desist' stuff, I mean what I post. But what I've said has been poster-to-poster, not as an Admin.

Count me in the group that is enjoying Jim Nance's shot across the bow. Glad to see that post-fiasco Tiger is fair game to be called out for being a prima donna.

I love his game and hope to see future successes. But he has already missed out on ever besting Jack Nicklaus in my book.

You're right, it's the internet...which is why you getting worked up about nothing, then accusing me of doing the same for the sake of proving a point is silly and unnecessary...especially in this thread about golf...I feel like it doesn't belong here, but since you've allowed it to continue, and you're an admin around here, I suppose it's okay.

This machismo bullcrap about being tough and not talking about feelings is all well and good if that's your prerogative. I, personally, am secure enough in my emotions to admit when somebody's slighted me...if that's your way of coping, to each his own.

Did I not make an effort to clarify? I apologize if my verbiage was not exactly the way you'd like it to be...but then again, when you just want to argue with someone, it's pretty easy to be willfully ignorant to context and refuse to read between the lines.

Hey! Here's something relevant to this thread...and something not draped in bullcrap! Magnificent.

I can do that...an opinion is an opinion, we each have 'em...that's why I, personally, come to places like this...to share my opinions. As an admin around these parts, I figure you're used to accepting all opinions as they are, right? Walking to the beat of one's own drum if you will...I believe somebody told me that once... :wink2:

So you ARE being willfully ignorant to context and simply using semantics to build up that ivory tower...but I can deal with that, you're a smart guy...and over the internet, manipulating language to make your points is the easy way out. Way to conquer the art of civilized discussion!

And as long as I'm not breaking any rules (something that apparently doesn't mean much around here), I've got no reason to "cease and desist" anything...but as someone who actually respects the idea that people should be treated the way you'd want them to treat you...I'll take note of your issues and try my best not to "rile you up" anymore.

...all that said, you could've made your point and split with your statement above, but you chose to stick around and "make your point", in effort to "win" this conversation...so congratulations, the gold star is coming. :roll2:

NOW, back to the topic of this thread...

I feel like Tiger deserves every bit of scrutiny he's been receiving and will receive in the following months/years...but I also understand the fact that he's good for the game...whether or not people are willing to admit it, Tiger Woods means more to the game of golf than anyone else out there right now. You don't have to like it...I certainly don't like the idea that any one man is bigger than the sport, but according to the media, that's how far too many fans perceive it...that being said, any scrutiny he receives is more or less an attempt at cleansing the "face" of the sport.

...I have a feeling that we're going to see a personal metamorphosis much like Kobe's after his fiasco, and a similar change in the media's relationship with Tiger. Now, I don't know if Tiger will handle it all the way Kobe did...by making the media shut up by proving himself in the field of play...but here's hoping he does...

I got all worked up about nothing - got it.

I accuse you of doing the same thing for the sake of proving a point, which is silly and unnecessary - got it.

I've allowed it to continue - got it.

Not wanting to talk about feelings in machismo bullcrap - got it.

You're secure in your emotions, apparently I'm not - got it.

I just want to argue, so I'm willfully ignorant of context - got it.

When I say something that's not draped in bullcrap it's a pleasant surprise to you - got it.

I'm using semantics to build up an ivory tower - got it.

I'm manipulating language to make points - got it.

I won't respond in the thread - this crap has polluted the thread for too long.

I don't remember ever seeing so many high profile players competing at such a high level on the final round of the Masters before...and even if there's precedent for it, it's pretty exciting head into the U.S. Open and next few majors.

I've always pulled for guys like Sergio and Westwood, and they still have a long time to nail down that first major...but will it be this year?

Lee Westwood slept on the 54-hole lead at Augusta last week in what has been his best chance to get himself out of this discussion. Let us not forget, either, that Westwood had a chance on the 72nd hole at the 2008 U.S. Open to join Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods in the Monday playoff that decided that event. He has been almost there -- and basically that is the definition of a player on the list.

But is he really the world's best without a major? First, a refresher on the formula: It takes into consideration PGA Tour and European Tour career accomplishments, with a heavy emphasis on finishes in majors. Because our junior high school algebra teacher made sure we always showed our work back in the day, the formula breaks down as such:

(2 + [PGA Tour top-10 pct.]) + (1 + [European Tour top-10 pct.]) + PGA Tour wins + (Euro Tour wins x 0.5) + ([top-10 pct. in majors x 100] x .25) + (major points x 0.1) = Almost Index

Major points are collected like this: Players are awarded points for every major in which they finish in the top 10, on a scale from 1 to 9. A second-place finish is worth 9, a T-2 is worth 8.5, a third amounts to 8 and so on, with the scale ending at T-10 (0.5 points).

Who's going to be next?
