The Many Troubles of Marcus Vick (merged)

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything official. There were several different allegations of whay happened, including:

-result of a car accident
-injury from Vietnam
-house fire as a youth
-injury from a kerosene heater exploding next to him as a youth.

It's hard to get a definitive answer, but regardless, it's hardly a good reson to mock a person.

EDIT - here is what I found at techsideline.com
Beamer grew up on a 70-acre farm in Fancy Gap, Va. In 1954, when he was seven years old, he used a push broom to help keep a pile of burning trash in place. When the job was done he returned the broom to the garage, unaware that its brushes were still smoldering. A spark ignited a can of nearby gasoline, which exploded in front of him. His 11-year old brother, Barrett, saved him by rolling him around on the ground, but Frank was left with burns on the right side of his neck, chest and his shoulders. Over the next few years he endured dozens of painful skin grafts and was left with permanent scarring
ARE YOU SERIOUS? if so my bad i didnt know that......:osu:

I usually don't bring stuff from other boards, but this post, cut and pasted from a VaTech site was too good to pass up:

I think everyone is blowing the Marcus Vick "stomp"...

of purportion. I meam come on, quarterbacks get cheap shotted all the time and when vick gets tackled you can see defensive players trying to take shots. I thinks its about time a qb started to fight back. That defensive player was prolly talking a lot of ish, but they won't talk about that. As far as vick being overrated, I think he did pretty good for not playing in a year being a first year starter and playing with young receivers. He lead tech to 11 wins and a top 10 finish. at the end of the day, its not his fault he's michael vicks brother and its not his fault everybody compares him to his brother and its not his fault he was hyped up by the very people taking shots at him now.

Now, to their credit, basically everyone on the thread and the board from VTU condemned this post and this attitude (kinda refreshing), but....holy cow.

Even if "any part" of that is true; the guy has had so many chances, and it doesn't seem like he's learning at all. He flicked off the fans in Morgantown, had a couple of run-ins with the law, and now he does this. It doesn't seem like he's learning at all. The guy is a pretty good quarterback. He's strong, a pretty accurate passer and such, but the shit has got to stop. I think you suspend him for the beginning of the season next year. I don't know how many games, but you have to. I don't think it matters, though. Mainly because Beamer doesn't know what "disciplinary action" means.

Va Tech will have to suspend Vick now, because of how this has quickly became national news. I'm not sure if it comes down from the AD of Va Tech, or the NCAA, but Vick will most likely miss some games.

Gator Bowl ref: Hokies 'brutal' in first half

[A snippet follows:]

Steve Usecheck, a Big 12 Conference official who led the crew for Monday's game, called Tech's first-half taunting and late hits the worst he's seen in his 22 seasons. He said that no official saw Vick stomp the back of Elvis Dumervil's leg while Dumervil was down on the turf late in the second quarter.

"We missed that, and I'm sorry we did," Usecheck told the Newport News Daily Press from his Colorado home. "The TV, everybody saw it but us. I wish we had the opportunity to talk to (Vick) because that was complete (expletive). You bet I would have thrown his ass out."

You figure a ref that's been around the Big XII for 22 years has seen their share too...of blowouts, frustration, geeked up jabronis named Bosworth, etc. For him to say that's as bad as he's seen, that's saying something. Wonder if they (the coaches) feel any embarassment at all...probably not.

This guy is now officially my hero.

EDIT - The ref, not "Ron New Mexico"/"Nick Guatemala"/"Marcus Vick"

Report: Hokies intend to suspend Vick

<!-- begin text11 div --><!-- begin leftcol --> <!-- template inline -->Virginia Tech will discipline Marcus Vick for his behavior in the Hokies' bowl game, with an announcement of the penalty possibly coming Monday.

</td><td width="65">Vick</td></tr></tbody></table> The junior quarterback will be suspended for an undetermined number of games next season if he returns to school, The Hampton Roads (Va.) Daily Press reported, citing two athletic department officials.
Vick stepped on Elvis Dumervil's calf after the Louisville defensive end tackled Vick on Monday during the first half of the Toyota Gator Bowl. Vick was not penalized, but school officials later apologized for the play.
Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer is scheduled to meet with Vick and his mother, Brenda Boddie, on Thursday to outline the player's options.
"Before a final decision is made, we've got to talk to the young man," Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver told The Roanoke (Va.) Times.
Weaver already has talked to school president Charles Steger and Beamer about the play.
"I suspect that [the decision] will rest with me," Weaver told the Times. "At this juncture, all three of us are on the same page. ... We're going to deal with it in what we think is an appropriate manner, and one that's fair and firm."
Vick was not penalized but was rebuked at halftime of the Gator Bowl by quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers, who said he even considered pulling Vick from the lineup.
Vick said later it was "an accidental play, and football is football." He also said he had apologized to Dumervil. Dumervil said no apology had been offered.
"A no-character individual," Dumervil said after the game.
Vick threw two touchdown passes and led a 22-point, fourth-quarter rally for the No. 12 Hokies, who beat the No. 15 Cardinals 35-24.
Rogers, who has mentored Vick in his on-field and off-field behavior, was livid with his quarterback, chewing him out at halftime, and after the game.
"There's no reason for that in the game," Rogers said. "It's flat-out embarrassing. I don't coach that way, and I don't expect him to play that way."
The incident is the latest trouble for Vick since he elected to follow his brother, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, to Virginia Tech. The elder Vick led the Hokies to the 1999 national championship game and was the first pick of the 2001 draft.
Marcus Vick played in 11 games as a backup in his freshman year, then was suspended from school last season after he was arrested, along with teammates Mike Imoh and Brenden Hill, for giving alcohol to 14- and 15-year-old girls. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge.
The younger Vick also later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and no contest to marijuana possession after a police stop in July 2004.
In Vick's absence, the Hokies won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in their first year in the league, then lost 16-13 to No. 3 Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I remember when I played peewee football my coach always told us to step on the other player if we could...I was only around 11 so I didn't think anything of it then.

if your statement is true in any way that is one of the most pathetic things i have ever heard and your "coaches" should be beaten to death. not that i find it one bit surprising... but that isn't the point. your flippin 11! who cares if you win??

Good for Steve Usecheck to call out the Va Tech team. Everytime I watched VT this season I saw Jimmy Williams do something that made me want to turn off my TV. Kudos to that officiating crew also for having the sense to eject Williams during that game.

Vick, the younger brother of former Tech All-American and current Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, was arrested Dec. 17 in Hampton, Va., and charged with misdemeanor driving on a suspended or revoked driver's license, according to the Virginia Judicial Systems Web site.

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=238 align=right><TBODY><TR><TD width=10></TD><TD width=228>

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>The charge was not reported on the state's Web site until yesterday.

The above quote is from the Washington Post article in the link above.

Interesting that the charge wasn't reported until yesterday.

It seems that the younger Vick has issues with judgment and respect for authority. I'll be following this to see how Virginia Tech handles this.
