THE GREATEST TEAM OF ALL TIME thread!!

I strongly agree with Alums post. I am so tired of hearing "The Greatest of All Time" in almost every sport its ridiculous. Not only with teams, but with players. Every time I hear Bonds being "The Greatest" I cant help to laugh. When I hear the same about Tom Brady, I chuckle again. For Gods sakes, I even recall an announcer calling Lenix Lewis the greatest boxer of all time. What is it with these people? Are they just obsessed with themselves so much they think that they must be living in the greatest era that the sport has ever seen? I just dont think they realize what they are saying when they say "greatest ever".

Im my lifetime, I can honestly say I have only seen "The Greatest Ever" regarding major sports in only these cases -

Hockey - Wayne Gretzky
Hoops - Michael Jordan
Soccer - Pele
Football - Joe Montana (QB only)
Football - Barry Sanders (RB only)
Football - Lawrence Taylor (LB only)
Football - Anthony Munoz (OL only)

I suppose for horseracing you could include Secretariat (whos dominance is so complete that he may be the greatest of all time for all sports), but since I never really saw him, Ill leave him off.

I would add three names...

Muhammad Ali
Jack Nicklaus
Jesse Owens

Look, we all know that 2002 USC was the greatest team of all time (they had only 2 losses, after all) followed closely by 2005 Notre Dame, so we don't really need this thread, do we?

Muhammad Ali
Jack Nicklaus
Jesse Owens<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Dont want this to get out of hand, but

I dont think Ali was the greatest boxer of all time. I think that title goes to Sugar Ray Robinson. I dont even think hes the greatest heavyweight. To me, that is either Joe Louis or Rocky Marciano. Although I LOVE boxing - I didnt include any of these b/c I never saw any of them. Same for Owens.

Jack for golf. Not a major sport to me, but I agree with you here.

Also, someone said Rice for WR (or dancing). He is prob the GOAT for WR.

I take it you don't know who Alexander Karelin is

Simply - I dont. Sorry. Thx for the link though.

I take it you don't know who Alexander Karelin is. By far the most dominant athlete in any sport in modern times.

Since when is grab-ass a sport?

Seriously, though - talking about the greatest individual athlete of all-time, taking absolutely everything into account (college and professional career, statistics, wins, championships, notoriety, etc.), I think you have to go with this guy right here:

___

here is a thought for you. If texas can pull it together and win the NCAA tournament in baskettball then they will have pulled the "tiger slam" of the major sports championships winning baseball in '05, football in '06 and then baskettball in '06. if that were to somehow happen....is texas the greatest athletic program of all time?

No because USC almost beat you at football, and ND almost beat USC, and therefore both of those programs would still be better than yours, no matter what happens with basketball or baseball.
