The great bicycle debate: moved from Schiano thread

Great coordinator, but I'm continued to be troubled by his employment by our university.

Do I trust Urban? Yes. Am I concerned about this guys association to the program? Yes.

Both can be true, IMO.
I'm "troubled" by him bc I heard he's a dick. What about this situation is troubling? Do you think he ran the guy down on purpose or was drunk or something?

More like a "strike #2". I still find it pretty difficult to believe he had no knowledge of the Sandusky situation, after it came out in testimony that through "second hand" info, McQuery was told Schiano was aware.

I'm sure hitting a biker at 6:50am was 100% an accident, but also likely bad judgement in the moment. Not sure what he was paying attention to in the moment, but I get it....mistakes happen.

Still a bit unsettling in totality with PSU allegations.

With that said, he's been an exceptional coach.

Having any opinion of the accident as a "strike" is premature as there has been no specific reporting of what happened. As far as the Sandusky stuff goes, I think I'd be at least as worried about Larry Johnson (18 years at PSU) as Schiano (6 years). Johnson's tenure also overlapped with the McQuery-reported incident and the eventual period for which PSU forfeited victories while Schiano's did not (although I have no doubt that Sandusky was up to his bad deeds while Schiano was there). IMO, both of them almost surely at least strongly suspected what Sandusky was up to. Also, for me Johnson has, at least for now, a more legitimate "strike two": playing the race card in recruiting.

Likely bad judgement? What if the biker darted into the street?

Your perception is already placing guilt without knowing full details.

It's a fair point...I don't know who was assessed "at fault" although most assumptions based on the street it happened on is that it was likely the drivers fault. I just said above "mistakes happen"...I get that.

Truth be told I hate when bikers take up a lane on a highly trafficked road causing "pile-ups" behind them and forcing drivers into quick decisions in trying to work around them. I hope everyone comes out "OK" in the situation....

For me, and this is my personal belief, anything negative that comes out on Schiano is an accumulation of an already uneasy feeling I have. But that's just me....

This is fair as well. LJ Sr. wasn't named in testimony though. I'd assume he had knowledge as well but Tom Bradley and Greg Schiano were the ones named under oath in a hearing.

I don't want to rehash the whole discussion again, but it makes me uncomfortable.

Our defense is playing exceptionally well (especially the secondary), and he deserves credit for that, as a coach.

Well that's hardly fair at all.

I nearly hit a biker last time on campus. My daughter tweeted a couple of weeks ago about how she nearly gets trampled by a bike everyday on campus. People seem to ride their bikes like they own the roads around campus. Just my recent experience.

So from my perspective, I assumed the biker darted out barely visible and it was an accident.

Different perspectives due to different experiences.

This has definitely been my experience with Bikers in general, a good amount of them seem to have some kind of entitlement that they own the road and can do whatever they want, even when vehicles are present. Nothing makes me road rage more then when some jackwagon on a bike is riding in middle of the road.....when there is a friggin BIKE LANE.

Id probably bet that most Biker/Vehicle related accidents are caused by the biker doing something stupid. But the driver usually gets the blame anyway.

Bikers/pedestrians do have right of way, so to that degree they do own the road.

ERRONEOUS. A bike is a vehicle and as such it is subject to standard right of way laws. A bikey can't run a red light, get plowed and claim to have the right of way. In such a situation (or a hundred other), the driver is legally and financially not at fault.

That imbecile in Chicago who got skidmarked by the tour bus was judged at fault, and the bus driver didn't so much as receive a ticket.
