The Game, tOSU at ttun, Nov. 27th,12pm FOX (3654 down to 0)

Day hurt himself badly by going back to the penn state game plan to start the 2nd half and insisting on running the same play 3 times in a row when Stroud was cooking to end the half
They needed to stop the skunkbears running game. They couldn't.

The offensive line was outplayed and made as many mental mistakes as I can remember them making in a long time.

Due to those things, the offense had zero margin for error.

That felt like a 3.5 hour colonoscopy without anesthesia, but time to remember it’s just a game. My 8 month old little man is starting to wake up, and he’s still proudly wearing his buckeye jersey. 20 year old me would be pissed all day, but 35 year old me says there is still some good football to watch this evening.

Looks like we may still see the Oregon rematch.

Ok good.

Over the last few years Ive tried to distance myself from the losses. It still hurts whenever we lose, but a loss like this one no longer haunts my dreams for the next month.

And it's tough because OSU has been my team since I was a kid in the mid/late 90s. But as I get older, I realize that I should never ruminate over things I have no control over, especially football games when I have so many other things to worry about.

It's been a difference maker in my mental health during football season and I still get to enjoy all the games I normally do.

1000% the same. It sucks, but I am typically over it the moment the game ends. Especially a beating like this. There's nothing to agonize over. Take the licking and go root like hell for Auburn.

EDIT - and Sparty!

The penalties and mistakes finally came back to bite this team. They never got the consistency they needed in the running game or on defense.

The worst part is this team didn't seem fired up, excited, anything. They were beaten by their DL and manhandled by their OL and just went along with it.

On offense Day must figure out how to dictate a game against good defenses. Can't do that when your running game is secondary and can't convert short yardage. The run game has to be the legs of the offense so they have something to rely on when things get tough. They don't have that this year.

On defense, I'm more concerned about the players than coaches. The DL simply isn't good enough. The DTs are good, not great and the DEs are above average but disappear against decent teams. LBs are good but not run stuffers.

IMO, I think Barnes took a 2018 unit and made them serviceable although exploitable. But that's still very difficult to do mid-season with how bad they were. I wouldn't be sad to see Washington go, Coombs move on or just be the CB coach, and get a 5th defensive coach instead of using a ST coordinator.

No matter what you do with your staff, though, your DL has to make a huge leap in the offseason and you need more than 3 LBs who can play. Most of all they need to come out fired up and not looking like they're waiting to go inside and get warm.

Well, this is where we will find out if Day is going to be a great coach or a good to very good coach. After the last two seasons, there is no excuse to stick with the status quo on defense. None. I was kind of okay with giving them another run this season because last year was a disjoined mess because of COVID. No excuse now. Same issues again. Can't have it if you want to be elite. Losing to scUM is unacceptable...and it needs to trigger major changes.

If there are no changes or they just do some minor tweaks, I will start to wonder just what it is we are doing. The defense is terrible and it requires wholesale changes.

I'm fine with a good/very good coach for the basketball team because it's a fun distraction, but on the football team greatness is the standard and it's time for Day to make sure he maintains it. Forget about the preference for one system over another, just find the best damn DC and let them build their staff. LJ may be a great recruiter, but man...the line this year was underwhelming to say the least. If there aren't major changes after this season (I'd say game, but I know there probably won't be anything done until after the bowl game) triggered by this game, I have some serious concerns.

The more physical team won today. That's unacceptable versus TTUN.

I love our passing game, but watching a team run it down your throats repeatedly - knowing it's coming - is demoralizing.

All of those 5 star toys are great, but you have to be able to man-up and stop the other guys at some point. Didn't come close to a stop after halftime.

I sure would have preferred last weeks 3rd and long conversions over this week's 3rd and 2s.

I don't think they had a 3rd down longer than 7 yards the whole game.

There’s a physical and mental element to the game of football and running sets the tone. You have to pick yourself back up after getting run blocked, everyone has to exert energy to down a ball carrier vs just say, a DB. Bucks Dline did not want to be there after getting trounced all 3rd quarter.

Basically, my opinion, I’ll take 5 yards running over 5 yards passing.
