The Game, tOSU at ttun, Nov. 27th,12pm FOX (3654 down to 0)

Michigan 2021

This is the entirety of my game review....

This was a virtual repeat of the 1995 Game, when Ohio State had the flashy offense (Eddie George, Terry Glenn, Rickey Dudley, Orlando Pace) that did nothing, and Michigan completed 9 passes and rushed 52 times for 404 yards (7.7 yards per carry) on their way to a 31-23 victory.

Today, we got Freshman Stroud (good, not great; 150.40 pass efficiency), questionable play calling, and nothing from a defense that kept getting abused on simple inside runs (297 yards rushing, 7.2 yards per carry, 5 TDs) and actually quit on the final TD drive. Our DL has lots of big bodies who can't play, and our LBs and safeties lack athleticism.

Total beat down from start to finish.

Fuck Xichigan. That's all.

The team that runs the ball better has won 19 of the last 20. Credit them, they stuck to it. If u want to get our playmakers the ball, do it in the run game. Not one run by our WR's. Day put too much of it on C.J.'s shoulders and he didn't have to.

Really disapointed the OL didn't hold up better.
Yep, running is important, especially in inclement weather. Our lack of defensive adjustments was just too similar to the first few weeks. Simon looked lost out there in space today - kind of like our LBs last season vs Alabama.

Well, this is where we will find out if Day is going to be a great coach or a good to very good coach. After the last two seasons, there is no excuse to stick with the status quo on defense. None. I was kind of okay with giving them another run this season because last year was a disjoined mess because of COVID. No excuse now. Same issues again. Can't have it if you want to be elite. Losing to scUM is unacceptable...and it needs to trigger major changes.

If there are no changes or they just do some minor tweaks, I will start to wonder just what it is we are doing. The defense is terrible and it requires wholesale changes.

Won't let me like twice

This would have happened in the CFP, which is why I have hoped they would not get in. I kept saying that TSUN was better than everyone thought. What I did not see, is that Ohio State really didn't make much progress after Oregon on defense.

A few of them were JSN and others.

They kept the pocket clean for Stroud most of the game. Maybe B- was too good of a grade....maybe a C. They weren't great but they weren't a problem really.
After the snap, they were a 76-82%. A few of those are drops, a few are a young QB not knowing how to climb or give up on pocket.

Hutchinson gets there effectively but slowly inside. Ball has to come out.

CJ drops way back then bails further. Can't do that against a blind side block without Braxton's wheels.

Wypler held up ok other than snaps.

There were a lot of "they got there but not immediately" sacks. A few covg sacks but not all.

With a sound d and focused team, they pull that out. Nothing was sharp today.

You summed it up nicely. The Barnes and Coombs swap was a nice experiment, but there was nothing that showed it was a fix. This is Ohio State. You have to pay your coach 10 mill a year, and there’s no reason your assistants should be learning on the job. Send Barnes to the MAC to let him learn. Send Coombs to retirement unless you’re going to call him “recruiting manager”, but is that higher than Pantoni?

let’s just admit the correction threw window dressings on a turd. It’s like automatic blinds, covering up a turd.

Tbh I can't wait for the playoff to expand in a few years then if something like this happens we would still have a chance of making the playoff and getting a rematch with them. The future looks much better for College Football.

Just wait until you hear Buckeye fans calling for Day’s head. Cuz it will happen. Welcome to the rivalry, coach.

No one with a brain is calling for Days head unless he doesn't can this terrible D staff that can't utilize talent. The play calling was laughable at times, sure, but this game was in the bag if the D didn't allow a TD on damn near every possession. This was not an off day for the D, this is who they have been all fucking year.
