Ohio State-Michigan postgame notes

Saturday, November 22, 2008 4:13 PM

From the Ohio State athletics communications office

? Ohio State is 808-306-53 in its 119th season of play. The win total ranks fifth all-time in Division I college football. The only other schools to have 800 or more wins are Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas and Nebraska. Penn State seeks its 800th victory today against Michigan State.
? Ohio State is 450-189-28 all-time in Big Ten games.
? The win improves Jim Tressel's record with the Buckeyes to 83-18 (.822) and his career record to 218-75-2 (.742). Tressel's 218 wins rank as the third-most among active FBS coaches, just ahead of Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer and behind Penn State's Joe Paterno and Florida State's Bobby Bowden.

Rose Bowl looks out of the cards now....but all is still not lost for BCS game....right? Or am I missing something here....
The Bucks need Oregon St. to drop one of their final two games otherwise they win the Pac10 Rose Bowl bid. If oOSU wins out they would be tied with USC at 7-1 in the conference but holds the head-to-head tiebreaker. USC (barring they win out) will then get an at-large bid and most likely knock Ohio State to the Outback Bowl.

A Thankful Dad

Sorry so sappy...

One year ago today, we were flying back from Ethiopia with our newly adopted daughter. On the flight from LA to New York on the way over, I was blessed by watching Michigan collapse against Wisconsin, and then cursed to watch the Buckeyes do the same against the Fighting Zooks (and the refs).

Taking off from Addas Ababa late in the night, we knew that we wouldn't hear about The Game until it was over. The first thing I did after clearing customs was to find a paper and read excitedly about the 14-3 victory and Beanie's great day. It was great to share that with Mihret.

My dad had The Game on the DVR, and I thought that watching it while she slept on my chest was just about the greatest thing ever.

Until today.

Watching "running... tackle" (as she calls it) with my daughter, having her spell out O!H!I!O! after big plays, hearing her say "Beanie", and getting to jump up and down with her when the Bucks score... it doesn't get much better than that.

So, thank you Seniors. Thank you Beanie. Thank you Buckeyes. Thank you Jim Tressel.

You not only made this great morning possible for a dad stuck in California, you've made it so my daughter only knows a world where THE Ohio State University beats Michigan.

:oh:
